Re: [Serious] Dr. Jerri Nielsen FitzGerald, RIP Yes. I do not want to be negative about those who have passed, and after all, I really only know the same superficial stuff that we all get to see...both good and bad. I meant no swipe at either F.F., or M.J., may they R.I.P.!
Although I enjoy music, and other "Arts", I am just not one of those people who particularly idolize them. I am much more impressed by those who dedicate their lives/careers to the sciences, especially when those breakthroughs might save tens of thousands, or even millions of people!
For example, is there a performer today...or at any point in history, that would even remotely approach Dr. Jonas Salk in terms of having an important role in the lives, and quality of life of millions? Who knows what may have occurred in my own life? I liked the music of John Lennon, Janis Joplin, etc., but I am waaay happier that I never had to deal with polio in my life...as a T2 Diabetic, I am eternally grateful for whoever developed Glucophage/Metformin, for example, as this directly affects the quality of my life...daily!
That is not to imply that Doctors or Scientists/Researchers are intrinsically "better" human beings...but I do place them on a higher pedestal in terms of relative importance to mankind. -- Deeds, not words |
