| HomeMedia DVR and ROUTER issue
For some reason - my settop box now has a new IP of 192.168.1.101.... Last week it was 192.168.1.103. The issue is that the firewall rule for the port fowarding rule for the remote DVR function to work is still set up in the router to foward to 192.168.1.103, which now is not the IP of the settop... any ideas how to fix this? |

| Which router are you using?
I'd think the easiest thing to do is bind the MAC address for your DVR to the .103 IP that you want it to have. -- So put me on a highway, and show me a sign. And take it to the limit one more time... |

@spcsdns.net | I'm using the Verizon supplied Actiontec router. Bind the MAC to the .103? But the IP of the settop is DHCP from the router as .101 now. How will that help? |

| Assign a static IP for the STB to the .103 address. Power down the STB (pull the cord). When you reconnect power, it should then go to the .103 address. -- So put me on a highway, and show me a sign. And take it to the limit one more time... |

@spcsdns.net | Can you please give me instructions on how to do this? Doesn't seem to allow me to assign a static IP. Seems like the IP's for my two settops are "automatically" assigned - no checkbox or anything next to them to modify any of the settings... |

1 edit | I haven't used the Actiontec in quite some time. I'm using a D-Link router. I've got the Actiontec sitting on a shelf and plug it in if there's a problem and have to call Verizon tech support.
I have everything on a static IP with my D-Link - down to the STB/DVR boxes, my Hava, network printer, etc, etc. Nothing ever changes and everything always works.
I'm sure someone who uses the Actiontec can chime in and give you the step-by-step procedure.

But, then, I don't have any firewall or port forwarding rules set up involving the router. |

The issue is that the firewall rule for the port forwarding rule for the remote DVR function to work is still set up in the router to forward to 192.168.1.103 Is this a port forwarding rule you set up?
You shouldn't need to set up any port forwarding rules in the Actiontec for the remote access to the DVR.
I use the remote DVR function and I don't see any port forwarding rules in the Actiontec.
Can you post the full rule? |

| Port 63145 has been reported to be used by the VZ TV Central remote DVR access. See this thread: »FIOS TV Central website access with Non AT Router?
As for port 35000, take a look at this thread: »Westell and Fios have lost their mind! |

| Wow, great thread. I read the whole thing....you sucked me in! But it was time well spent, very interesting Router tech talk.
I realized that I do not need Home Media DVR service (did that change at some point?) to use the remote DVR features, so I went to FIOS TV Central and registered (successfully) my DVR for remote access (actually I have 3). Waiting on the 24-hour or so approval now.
Wow, very weird with all that port forwarding....but it never talked about all that activity actually being specific to the Westell. |
