Webcam won't work with hardwire but will on wireless

Howdy - Don't know if I'm in the right forum or not, but here's my prob.

Have a Dell Latitude running Windows XP trying to use a Logitech webcam. If I connect to any wireless network, it works without a hitch.

However, the room I'm in doesn't have wireless, only dsl and for some reason, it will not work.

I tried to call the tech support for the service (free), but they said they don't have firewalls and if I connect to the internet it should work.

Any ideas? I've disabled my firewall but that didn't help none either. It's on Mid-Atlantic Broadband service.

Thanks for any help.

I suppose webcam works anywhere else but at your own house.

In what way wbcam is not working, no picture or not able to video conference?

What BB equippment is prvided by ISP?
Do you use a router?
Do you use a proxy server?
Are you sharing it with roommate(s)?
Who has control of equippments?

webcam will work on any wireless hotspot. Only hardwire connection I've tried is in my hotel room.

I can't connect to any yahoo, Live, Logitech Vid...I'm sure it's a connection issue vs. actual camera unless I have wireless. Camera works great then.

Only equip the room has is a modem for DSL. I don't have a router or proxys or anything. No roommates. I belive Mid Atlantic Broadband controls the equip.

So when you open the Logitech application while using your ethernet cable, the Logitech app will not even start to display the video from your webcam?

I would suggest you uninstall and reinstall the Logitech driver while connected with ethernet cable.

Is your ethernet port built in, or is it an add on card, or usb adapter?

The app starts just fine, I can see myself on the screen etc. I can log into the services, Live, Yahoo, etc., and chat, but when I try and broadcast my webcam while connected with the ethernet cable, it will not broadcast. My wife can't see me and I can't connect to hers either.

My ethernet is built in. I updated the driver, but that didn't help either.

I'm wondering if Norton has different settings for wired and wireless stuff. It works great when wireless, but not wired. Should I uninstall Norton or are you thinking get another NIC?

That's a pretty weird problem. I use a Dell D620 Lattitude with a Logitech QuickCam Pro for Notebooks and I'm in hotel rooms all over all the time...and I've never seen that problem.

Have you tried Skype? It's my video conferencing application of choice at this time.

If Skype doesn't work wired but does with wifi, the first thing I'd try is finding another wired connection to test. Despite what that hotel's tech support guy said, I'm wondering if they don't block some ports.

As for Norton, it could indeed be causing the problem, but being on a public connection to the Net I'd use caution in disabling or removing your a/v protection, even for a brief time.

Good luck in solving the mystery.
