joepwpb : I am at a trying to help my friend resolve the issues she is having with her Ultra tier service. She was experiencing very slow download speeds but very good upload speeds. So, she contacted Tech Support and spent the next hour and a half on the phone with two different support levels. The second tier support decided on a truck roll based on the line stats he was seeing, although he stated that he would be re-provisioning the line. I was able to get there today when the Tech arrived and first he tested at the NID then at the modem, after removing the Belkin N Router. The stats at the NID and the modem were excellent and the speed tests from both were slightly more than 1.2dn/215up. I then reinstalled the Router and the speeds went into the toilet! I checked the Router and found the MTU to be 1500 so I reset it to 1492 and then used “netsh” to set the MTU on both PC’s to 1492 . The wireless Notebook improved but the Desktop did not. Both PC’s are running Vista.

I understand the there are no RWIN tweaks for Visa but I did take a look at the settings and found that both had a MTU of 1492, MSS of 1452 and a 56628 RWIN on the Notebook and 66792 on the Desktop. I was concerned at the Desktop’s RWIN being above 65535 so I tried to drop it but it would not change.

I would appreciate any suggestions as to what I can try or what settings I can check to further troubleshoot this issue. I will not be able to get back there for a few days but may be able to sign in remotely to make a change to get some information.

Thanks,

Joe P
