| What is the least Wifi Cell Phone? What is the least expensive WiFi cell phone? I am looking for a cheap Wifi cell phone new or used that has G wireless and has the ability to launch a web browser and surf the web. I do not want a new cell phone contract as I will only be using this phone at to log into a Google Voice account on my home network. The purpose for this is to facilitate placing phone calls and checking voice mail using Google Voice's website on the cell phone over my home network. This will allow me access Google Voice's free calling feature without having my desktop computer turned and to have constant access to free calling feature. I am also considering an Ipod Touch for this purpose. Your recommendations will be highly appreciated.

Being unlocked, it will work on either T-Mobile or AT&T (or any GSM based service). For cellular data it only has 2.5G EDGE connectivity (no 3G) but it has excellent Wi-Fi (802.11b and g), stereo Bluetooth, etc. It runs Windows Mobile 6.0 (there are mods for 6.1 but I haven't tried them) and the aftermarket batteries are very inexpensive (I picked up a couple for $5 each) as well as desktop chargers (keep one battery charged, another in the phone). I have run the included Internet Explorer (its ok, but no beauty) as well as the free Skyfire browser that has much more capability, including Flash and true HTML browsing. -- *************** I think computer viruses should count as life. | You should check with your carrier to see when you are eligible for an upgrade on your current contract. Then you are eligible for a subsidized price on a new phone (upgrade). Check what WiFi phones are offered & then you can buy the one you want. For the price of buying a used phone and adding it to the one you already have, you can just replace the current one with a WiFi one and not have the hassle of 2 phones, everything is in one package.
Personally I have a Blackberry Bold with AT&T and it works great for WiFi. | |
