Update:
After swapping over the ethernet connection from LAN connection 2 on the desk top to LAN connection 2 on the router I have fixed the current issue.
Although now I get no drop out in connection this has been replaced with very slow download speeds which a remedied if the router is reset |

| I recently purchased A Belkin ADSL2 Modem/wireless G-Router F5D7633uk4A for a shared internet connection between my laptop and desktop. This is the fisrt network I have installed and just want to use it as a shared internet connection not to network devices or share files.
My desktop;
Windows XP Q6600 Quad Core CPU Abit P35 motherboard On board Realtek GBE & FE ethernet PCI NIC adaptor 2Gb DDR2 system memory Geforce GTS 8800 Graphics card 2 x 250GB Western didgitial harddisk in Raid 0
My laptop;
Windows XP Celeron CPU 2 GB DDR2 On board Graphics 120GB hardisk IEEE 802.11B wireless ethanet adapter
ISP;
Demon home 8800
Installation;
I previously had a speedtouch USP modem installed on my desktop and the lap top was dial up.
Before I installed the Belkin router I unistalled the speedtouch drivers via the add/remove programs. I then rebooted by PC to ensure the unistallation had been completed.
I then updated by ethernet driver via the windows update to the lastest version which was released in march 2009. I then rebooted to ensure a complete update of the driver.
I then unticked all automatic lan settings and set my internet protocol settings (TCP/IP) to obtain IP adress automatically and use DNS server adress automatically.
With the PC off I physical connected the belkin router to my PC via the supplied RJ45 cable from connection 1 on the router to connection to 1 on the desktop PC.
I then connected the router to my RJ11 internet line and plugged in the router to the mains and booted the router and PC.
At the XP desktop I open internet explorer and entered the IP adress of the modem. At the modem interface I used the belkin wizard to set the configuration for the ISP. These are the same as suggested by the Belkin webiste and indentical to the infomation Demon gave me.
I set the idle time to 5 mins and ticked connect on demand.
After this the modem resets automatically, I then set the WPA-AES security and then rebotted the modem.
Wireless;
I activated the mobile ethernet adaptor on my laptop and searched for a network. The laptop found my network and I entered the password and connected sucessfully.
The problem,
Both the desktop and laptop have no problems finding the network.
Once a internet connection is established there is never a break in the online connection.
The laptop remains connected to the internet/network when the desktop in shutdown.
However if the desktop has been off for a while, several hours and the router has been on in this time (in which I could acess the internet problem free with the laptop) and then I boot the desktop I can not acess the internet.
Both PC's remain connected to the network but explorer will not connect to websites nor with programs that use the internet update.
So it would appear that by booting the desktop breaks the internet connection which does not automatically reconnect when I use a program that requires the internet. Once this happens connections are broken on both the laptop and desktop.
Restarting the router from the IP page or switching on and off at the power fixes this issue as it forces the router to reboot.
During the time when the connection is broken the internet LED is flashing green.
Things I have tried;
So far I noticed that the net adapter 1394 connection was active which was running another DCHP protocol. Since the desktop dosn't need this I deactivated to elimate any conflicts this was creating.
I also switch idle time to the maximum value.
neither fixed the problem.
Things I havn't tried;
There is a beta version of the freeware out, but I don't want to try this as its "beta". but this does say this fixes some stability issues.
Suggestions?
If the desktop has only been of for a short while I don't get the problem. |
