The other day I changed the cable that was connecting the phone to the phonejack and the problem stopped for a few hours but then it started again. What could have caused this? It was fine for months, why now?

I think that the filters I'm using is failing somehow since the one I had before simply stopped working like a months ago and I had to change it.
