| NJN & WLIW On the Oakland system we get the New Jersey Network (NJN) on ch. 8 and WLIW on ch. 21. My question is why aren't any of these channels broadcasting in high-def? Ch. 721 is merely an SD rebroadcast of ch. 21, so there's no reason not to go HD. And NJN doesn't even broadcast any sub channels, at least none that I know of. My wife and I watch these PBS stations a lot (including the WLIW sub channel Create), and it would be nice to have more than one PBS station in hi-def.

| Re: NJN & WLIW I can only get WLIW Clear QAM here in the Morris System, otherwise regular WLIW 21 isn't mapped to the digital cable lineup. Of course WLIW Create and WLIW World are on every lineup.
What's odd is that WLIW21 is a WNET.ORG station..the parent company of Thirteen. Unless they don't consider it a high priority..they seem to get plenty of money donated to them in some form or another.

| Here on the Woodbury, LI system, all three sub-channels for WLIW-DT are carried but they are SD because WLIW is broadcasting in SD. The OTA signal for WLIW-DT is SD on all three channels.
NJN is available here on channel 107-8 ClearQAM but not through a box (at least I have not been able to find it on a box). The NJN OTA signal has three sub-channels; main HD program on -1, secondary programming in SD on -2 and an audio only reading service for the blind on -3.

| Re: NJN & WLIW You would figure NJN would mention it directly having an their main OTA signal in HD, gotta wonder why it's not carried....atleast on Cablevision in HD. I already knew WLIW was SD on all three of their channels. So we're both missing each area's respective PBS station on our IO lineups. | |

| Given WNET and WLIW are under common ownership, they've decided to only broadcast one HD signal at this time. You could view their two RF channels as one pool of bandwidth. Over the two channels, you have a bunch of SD sub-channels and one HD channel. If WLIW put up a HD signal, it would duplicate much of what is on WNET's HD signal. It would be a waste of bandwidth.
IIRC, NJN and WLIW worked something out a few years ago where NJN took precedence over WLIW in NJ. Maybe that's changed. | |

If that was the case, NJN would have wider distribution across the entire NY DMA, not just NJ.
And, there would not be cable systems in NJ that don't carry WLIW. | |

| Re: NJN & WLIW i have rcn cable in manhattan which has njn. my relative in brooklyn on cablevision does not have njn while another relative in queens on time warner has njn. i wouldnt pay much attention to this channel but my kids like to watch cartoons they air during the morning hours. | |

If the only reason they delayed going HD was because the transition date was moved from February (which to me makes no sense, but ok) then why didn't they do it in June? | |

PBS are getting to be annoying re their Masterpiece Theater scheduling. Electronic guides show what each show will be in each time slot so then I set the TIVO. Ooops I get a Wallender unanounced in the time slot instead of an Agatha Christie.... | |
