Looking for another ISP

I'm looking for an ISP that has cheap internet, with unlimited bandwidth usage and hopefully does NOT use Bell's lines. I can't seem to find any at a good price, anyone know of any?

thanks

You've listed several criteria ...

Cheap
Unlimited
Not DSL via Bell

That really limits your options ... as in you can get 2 out of 3 options.

BUT one important thing that you've omitted is WHERE! Canada's a huge place and by implying that you're in a Bell area, that probably means you're in Ontario or Quebec.

Bell pretty well has DSL wrapped up in most of Ontario and Quebec, although Primus offers its own DSLAMS (everyone uses Bell's wire from CO to the house). Other 3rd party providers in the area use Bell for the backhaul.

CIA/3Web CABLE service offers probably your best shot at cheaper, not Bell ... but they go over Rogers cable network and seem to have some issues related to congestion.

Perhaps others will have some other ideas ... but it's a pretty poor choice with those constraints.

You can gosub »www.canadianisp.ca or »www.canadianisp.com and get a good idea of what is available.

Those ISPs that have their own DSLAMs usually have very limited coverage in COs where they have a large business customer.

A neat ISP that offers personalised service is »www.electronicbox.net , they offer unlimited service. If you are willing to sign your life away and get a 1 year contract, you get $15 off the annual total cost and a free fixed IP.

Note that the CRTC is currently considering a Bell request to chang the tariffs charged to the ISPs which, if aoproved as is, would limit offerings to 60gigs per month and charge about $22.50 extra to go from 60 to 300 gigs.

Is 3web/CIA unlimited bandwidth (doesn't say on their site)? And how is their service?

There's been a lot of debate whether or not it's unlimited. Depends who you ask. There have been issues with service over the last year or so.

3web/cia is being purchased/saved by Distributel.

There is still not much visibility on what will really happen in terms of network restructuringm merging or not with existing distributel infrastructure and whether Distributel will have a good relationship with Regoers and Shaw in terms of getting good service for the cable customers.

7Mbps for their regular High Speed, if you do the speed boost option you get 10 Mbps. (This is out East in Rogers territory at least).

Best to give them a call if you are interested.
