Re: How many of you use hosted email services?

We use rackspace, it was mailtrust. Let me tell you, its awesome, Never (rarely) an issue. We limit support to standard configurations (pop3 SMTP) we will provide details for any other setup, but wont support it (if theyre going to set anything else up, but dont know what theyre doing, they dont need to do it)

These guys are awesome. They will provide you (for a minimal fee) an autoconfiguration utility that will set up customer clients for them.

There has not been an issue yet that wasnt posted on the control panel.

The interface is simple.

They offer hosted exchange which we are looking at.

Its cheap compared to what was paid out in staff time to troubleshoot an issue on the old locally hosted email servers.

Heres the tech support for our customers:

email not working

confirm pop3 smtp server name, confirm username/password, confirm smtp authentication. Thats it, anything else is on the customer end (undo what you did, unless norton pushed out an update then disable norton, restart pc, enable norton)

if they can get to webmail, then email works.

I love rackspace

We maintain our own mailservers as the option is $1.50-$2.00 monthly per email hosted elsewhere, and we simply don't have the margins to toss that away. The setup works exactly the same as anyone else's and hasn't required more than a week of our time in six years.
ALL the mail problems users have ever had were PEBKAC or OutHouse related. The in-house joke is that for the 1,500 users we've had in 12 years (we once had 800 dial-ups too) we've handed out 11,600 'how to set up your e-mail' sheets....

We outsourced our email to the same people that we outsourced our support.

So for the price of outsourcing we get the email AND the support for it. Which means we rarely have to talk about email ever again.

Apparently Im old fashioned.

I do my own email. Out of all the things one has to do in the WISP business, running your own mail sever sucks the worst.
