[Help Me] DIR-615 connectivity to 5100Speedstream DSL modem

I’m running on a Vista Home Premium PC and I’ve installed a Dlink DIR-615 router rev b2 Firmware 2.25 on to a Speedstream5100 DSL modem. The connection type is PPPoE.

Here’s the typical problem. The modem indicates the DSL line is available; the router internet indicator light is green; if I open the router status page it also indicates an internet connection is established; however, my PC network icon indicates it is not connected to the internet and neither will web pages load. If I reboot the router, or the PC, the connection will get established, however, I will lose the connection again after a few minutes.

I have connected to the internet directly from PC to modem. I lose the connection there at times but due to the DSL line dropping and the DSL lights on the modem go off. In the problem above, however, the DSL line continues to be available, according to the indicator lights.

As a side note, when I reboot the router it sometimes comes back with:

Please wait... The gateway is currently measuring your network connection. Accessing this web page might have an effect on the measurement. This page will refresh shortly...

What's it doing?
