What local drive in's did you go to? Did you ever sneak in?
There were many times when i went to the Los Altos drive in while hiding in my frind's trunk and snuck in. There's a Facebook page on this drive in and some people snuck via the exit spikes. They took carpet out of the dumpster from across the street at Carpeteria (sp?) and laid it on the spikes and drove through.
Here's some interesting history on the Los Altos drive in in Long Beach on Bellflower Blvd.
They say LosAltos opend in 72, but others claim it was open in the 50s. »cinematreasures.org/theater/17948/
»mysite.verizon.net/res8ibgr/soca···ltos.htm -- My father had all this political capital built up when he drove the Iraqis out of Kuwait and he wasted it. He said, If I have a chance to invade if I had that much capital, I'm not going to waste it.I'm going to get everything passed that I want. G W BUSH |

It opened when I was 11, so I had use of it during high school. -- My dog walks on water. |

The "Azusa" on Rt 66 in Azusa, next door to what was one of the oldest McDonalds in the state.. Now a parking lot for APU.
One in Temple City (cant remember the name) on Las Tunas? near Rosemead Blvd... special memories there as a guy was shot and killed just a few cars down from us while watching Grease ... He was shooting off bottle rockets and making too much noise.. |

Compton Drive in | | Vermont Drive in | | Century Drive in | |
The Three pictured. The Culver drive in, and another one on Centenela in Westchester I can't remember the name.
The Century had a mural as well, then it was painted over. In their prime, with the murals and neon, they were very spectacular. |

| reply to hopeflicker Hwy 39 was my local drive-in. One of my buddies figured out that if you had steel belted radials and drove slow you could drive over the spikes with no damage. -- "Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else." --FREDERIC BASTIAT-- |

1 edit | reply to hopeflicker The Vermont, the Century, and the Torrance were mostly where we went during high school. I've been to the Culver with my parents when I was like five or something. I'm laughing at how many times and how many ways I sneaked in to the Vermont drive-in.
Anybody remember the name of the drive-in in west LA that had a mural of a surfer?
Edit: I was thinking about this during my swim this morning and I remembered I also used to frequent the Rodium drive-in on Redondo Beach Blvd between Van Ness and Crenshaw. Also, I believe the drive-in on Centinela in Westchester was called, strangely enough, the Centinela drive-in. -- Pain is weakness leaving the body |

| reply to hopeflicker We use to go to the Mission Drive In on Holt and Central almost every week. Then we would go to the Baldy Drive In, up on White Ave and Foothill. Also the Rialto Drive in on Valley and Cherry and the Ramona Drive in on Mission Ave in Pomona.
And yes we did try to sneak in kids in the trunk once or twice but the third time we caught and thrown out. |

| There was one on Valley near Citrus. Put the following into Google maps and look at the sat view.. you can still see the old outline of the drive-in, including the snackbar/projection booth.
