| DSL Connectivity and D-Link 655 I am thinking of purchasing the D-Link 655. While looking over the product I saw that the back has place for a CAT5 cable. My DSL line look like a plain old 4 line telephone line, not a CAT5 cable. My current modem is a Verizon issued Westell modem, 802.11B, time to upgrade.
How do/can do I hook up the DSL line to the CAT5 jack? Is there a converter or am I missing something.
Thanks -Bob | |

| Re: DSL Connectivity and D-Link 655 The 655 is a router only (»www.dlink.com/products/?pid=530) - as such it can't be connected to the dsl line directly. From the wall cable it should go to the dsl modem via (RJ11), then from the modem to the router (CAT5), then from the router to other pc's via wireless or the internal 4 port switch (wired). -- Brian

| Re: DSL Connectivity and D-Link 655 Cylon can you recommend a DSL Modem that I can use with the DIR-655?
I was thinking of buying the NetGear DGND3300. But I think I'd prefer 2 separate products (a modem, and separate router). This way instead of one combined modem/router the net price would be about the same and the final result would probably be of better quality.
Your thoughts? Thanks | |

How can I use the older modem/router with a new 802.11n router?

Look on Verizon's website for instruction to bridge the modem,as nwrickert suggested. -- Got a Clark,Crown,Drexel forklift and need technical advice? Ask me about it.

| Re: DSL Connectivity and D-Link 655 Okay, this is the last of the dumb questions (I hope).
I read the Verizon instructions in its entirety. At the end of the process its tells me I'm in Bridge mode and then it tells how to turn Wireless on and then says to follow the third-party instructions to attach the new router to the verizon network.
I was my understanding that once I put it in Bridge mode the connection between the modem and DIR655 would be WAN cable.
My questions is, Once its in Bridge mode, why would I want to turn wireless on?
Thanks Bob | |

| Re: DSL Connectivity and D-Link 655 said by Nightfall :I just bought a D-link DIR-655 and I am happy with it so far. I got this after trying a Zyxel X550N and a Netgear WNR3500. The Zyxel had poor performance on the WAN side (50% throughput penalty for some reason), and the Netgear had some issues when it came to wireless stability and the router losing all my port forwarding every other day or so. The DIR-655 is a solid piece of equipment. You will be happy with it. Ironically, I just returned mine and got a Belkin N+.
There are some problems with the DIR-655, particularly with the later firmware versions, and you may want to stay away if you use Vonage for phone service.
As a "basic" wireless router, it's fine, but I wouldn't recommend it for anything more.
