Re: DSL Connectivity and D-Link 655 The 655 is a router only (»www.dlink.com/products/?pid=530) - as such it can't be connected to the dsl line directly. From the wall cable it should go to the dsl modem via (RJ11), then from the modem to the router (CAT5), then from the router to other pc's via wireless or the internal 4 port switch (wired). -- Brian

 | Cylon can you recommend a DSL Modem that I can use with the DIR-655?
I was thinking of buying the NetGear DGND3300. But I think I'd prefer 2 separate products (a modem, and separate router). This way instead of one combined modem/router the net price would be about the same and the final result would probably be of better quality.
Your thoughts? Thanks |

 | I have Westell W327 modem/router 802.11b. I want to replace it with an 802.11n.
How can I use the older modem/router with a new 802.11n router? |

| reply to merlin353 You should be able to disable Wireless on the 327w, then configure it as an unrouted bridge. Then use your router to handle the routing and WiFi.
If your ISP uses PPPoE, then you will need to setup PPPoE on the router. If your ISP does not use PPPoE, then before reconfiguring the 327w, click on the "disconnect" link. And as soon as it is disconnected, unplug from the phone line. Hopefully that will release any DHCP lease so that the new router can get an IP address without having to clone the 327w MAC address. With some ISPs, you might have to phone to have them release the link between your 327w MAC address and your service. -- AT&T dsl; Speedstream 5100b modem; openSuSE 11.0; firefox 3.0.11 |

Look on Verizon's website for instruction to bridge the modem,as nwrickert suggested. -- Got a Clark,Crown,Drexel forklift and need technical advice? Ask me about it. |

1 edit | Here's the tutorial,"Changing your VersaLink 327W gateway to Bridge Mode",on Verizon's website. Hope this helps. -- Got a Clark,Crown,Drexel forklift and need technical advice? Ask me about it. |

 | Thank you Mountaineer |

 | Okay, this is the last of the dumb questions (I hope).
I read the Verizon instructions in its entirety. At the end of the process its tells me I'm in Bridge mode and then it tells how to turn Wireless on and then says to follow the third-party instructions to attach the new router to the verizon network.
I was my understanding that once I put it in Bridge mode the connection between the modem and DIR655 would be WAN cable.
My questions is, Once its in Bridge mode, why would I want to turn wireless on?
Thanks Bob |
