personal well -> two micron sediment filter -> ionic exchange water softener -> reverse osmosis system -> drinking water tap and refer.
I change the sediment, pre, post, and activated carbon filters yearly and keep the softener full of salt. Yearly cost about $50.00

(unfiltered water) right from the tap,even rinsing & using a steel brush won't get it off the small pot,(Teflon coated pots & pans no problem)

The Milwaukee outbreak looks to be caused by incompetent certified operators. High turbidity? That automatically shuts the plant down in most systems.

Your city may have the cleanest water in the world, and you can read a water quality report, but all the credentials in Santa Rosa, or the whole state of California for that matter, won't help the Milwaukee municipal water system.

Contrary to popular belief, aluminum does corrode especially if it is alloyed with other metals for strength. |

1st you say its ok to drink tap water, then you talk about all ""CREDITIALS you supposedly have" anf the extra's thats in the water, (Calciumn,if i wanted a lot of that I would drink a gallon of milk a day) and I guess drinking to much water with iron in it won't hurt you,
maybe rust ""your bodies pipes" or ,ake the alarms go off at airport security ck points,
thanks, but I'll personally stick to FILTERED water ...

Municipal water systems are very regulated by the Federal Government, the water that comes out is FINE.
If you are that paranoid about your drinking water, call a local bottled water supplier(411 on the phone can help you) and have them bring you 5 gallon bottles of distilled water, there is NOTHING in it beside water, they will even rent you a cooler.
About the only heavy metal that is bad for you in moderate levels is lead, high levels of calcium(much higher than you are going to get in your water) will not hurt you either, but may contribute to stones.
On the scale you posted, it doesn't say what low or high means as far as a number, just relative to other systems in their test.
If you take vitamins, take a look at what is in it.

Taste is another matter. I rarely drink bottled water because I like the taste of our tap water more. On the other hand, the water at my dad's place has a ridiculous amount of minerals in it and is pretty much undrinkable. It turns everything yellow and even makes shitty-tasting kool-aid. I don't think I've ever been able to take more than a couple swallows of it. |

Me and the wife drink bottled water as well and I have been wondering on a filtration system for the house. I saw a whole house filter at walmart that can be self installed for about $27. It wasn't reverse osmosis though.
If I could reproduce here what nestle pure life does it would be worth the effort to do it. Depending on price really. I know my bother has just a kitchen filter in the house under the kitchen sink.
So really what is the best filtration one could get?
I saw one at home depot that turned bleach into drinking water! I was shocked.

I got tired of PUR systems.
I was using the 'on faucet' type, and was very happy with the water quality and lifespan of the filters.
What I got fed up with was the fact that every single one of them developed leaks at the faucet connector. I got 2 replaced under warranty, and went through a total of about 7 units over the course of maybe 4 years.
Enough.
I installed a GE Under sink unit. The cartridges last 6 months (or more). And they're reasonably priced. Depending on the level of filtration you want you can get the unit for under $100.
