The new Comcast lineup looks very competitive but remember, we are still the only one that has the 6 .crap channels. |

1 edit | reply to RBost What sickens me is that Cablevision is actually starting to carry some cool HD channels, like TCM HD, that I wish were available on FIOS. When I had CV, they were notoriously slow in adding any new channels, either in SD or HD. On those rare occasions when they did add new channels, along with the inevitable rate increase, they always acted like they were doing their customers the mother of all favors for doing so.
Now it's Cablevision that is adding HD channels left and right & it's Verizon that's seemingly dead in the water like some rat-gnawed corpse when it comes to adding new channels. Go figure. |

4 edits | That's right, they added Recipe TV at some point, didn't they? How silly of me to overlook that monumental achievement in the history of HD TV.
The point I was trying to make is that if Cablevision (a company that until very recently has had a history of only adding new channels to their lineup slowly) can add new premium HD channels as they become available, Verizon should be able to as well.
EDIT:
Let me be perfectly clear here so there are no misunderstands. I'm bitter specifically about Cablevision carrying TCM HD, a channel I'd very much like to see in the FIOS HD lineup. I was a Cablevision customer for 20 years, and it was like trying to pull teeth from a crocodile in heat to get them to add new channels to their lineup, no matter how popular those channels were on other services. Now that they've got some competition, they're adding new channels like there's no tomorrow. |

Verizon added six channels in the last two months, and destroyed the bandwidth for six other future channels. |

Go figure. Huh? They just added 12 HD channels in the past 2 months! At least 7 of these channels are pure fluff. The 6 .crap channels do not deserve to be on any line-up, and YES is merely a 24 hour informercial about the Yankees with about half of its programming in SD. Vz. needs to shine now that some of the better channels are becoming available in HD. |

1 edit | I agree that the dot tv's and even the Viacom HD's have minimal HD content. The dot TV's will be used in a trial for viewing on handsets. I don't watch these at home on my 62" DLP, not sure why I would watch them on my cell??? Spike HD is the best of the Viacom Channels, especially the new Jesse James show. I think VZ does need to stress quality over quantity now that the 100HD barrier has been broken... |

| reply to darcilicious Subjective indeed! For example munson15 wants TCM in HD and I don't blame him. But in reality Turner CLASSIC Movies are all shot prior to HD technology and quality would not be the same as Discovery HD Theatre just for one example. Junk for one could be gold to another but to me the dot tv's are just plain crap...good discussion... |

There is nothing inherent in film that makes it worse than something shot with an HD camera.....at least that is my understanding. |

Junk is junk, whether it is in HD or not.To me, quality far exceeds quantity. Your "junk" could very well be my treasure. I could care less about most sports in HD, most news in HD, etc, etc. And I'm sure there are HD channels that I would never want to go without that you never watch. So between the two of us, who should be the judge of "quality"? I vote for me |

2 edits | reply to RBost Anything shot on 35mm or 70mm film, which includes I think almost all films anyone would ever want to watch, contain a resolution higher than 1080p. So any of those could be converted to HD fairly easily. I have no idea, but my guess is that Turner's Classics have not been converted to HD from their original stock. TCM does show some newer films, but odds are they are still just SD copies.
The next ones Verizon should go after are BBC, MSNBC, Comcast's, TCM, and Cartoon Network. The Cablevision/Rainbow networks should be added, but we all know the story there.

1 edit | I'm curious about the Cartoon Network since Nick HD, which VZ recently added, didn't seem to be worth it? Don't know much about cartoon production but are HD cartoons really worth the BW? My kid was thrilled to see the "HD" in the logo but I didn't see a major difference...anyone agree/disagree? |
