"Billy Mays, the loud, fast-talking pitchman who epitomized the infomercial spokesman, died Saturday at his home in Tampa. Mays, who would have turned 51 Sunday, was found by his wife. Police do not suspect foul play.
Wow, now how are we going to know what super-duper product we should buy? And we're just left with "You're gonna love my nuts" Vince.... A sad day indeed! |

| Re: TV pitchman Billy Mays found dead at Fla. home He was involved in a very hard plane landing on Saturday. It's too soon to say if they are positively linked, but it would be a pretty big coincidence if they weren't. With as much energy he puts into his commercials, it's not hard to imagine the stresses on his body... |

I never tried the products he advertised, but he advertised them loudly |

KenPremium,MVM join:2003-06-16 Brownsburg, IN | reply to Jon I didn't realize Patrick Swayze was in such failing health.
quote: Diagnosed with Stage IV pancreatic cancer in January 2008, he is publicly battling the disease. He claimed to Barbara Walters in January 2009, that he is "kicking it".[1] He is the lead in an A&E TV series, The Beast, which premiered on January 15, 2009. However, due to a prolonged decline in health, Swayze has been unable to promote, or even appear in the series. On June 15, 2009, Entertainment Tonight reported that the show has been canceled.

| reply to mattmag Why couldn't it have been Vince? After watching the "pitchmen" show, I thought Billy was a pretty likable guy (unlike Sullivan).
The airplane incident reminds me of what happened to Natasha Richardson. Apparently Mays did get hit on the head last night. -- Looks like Reverend Wright got his wish - God Damn America. |

| reply to mattmag According to The St. Petersburg Times:
Mays was a passenger on Saturday of a 737 airplane that had a front tire blow out, said spokeswoman Brenda Geoghagan. Mays and other passengers were interviewed by US Airways staff after the hard landing. Responders reported no injuries.
"Tampa Fire (Rescue) reported no injuries. Nobody asked for treatment," Geoghagan said. "Some of the passengers said they had bruises."
Mays told a FOX 13 reporter that he was returning from the filming of an Oxyclean commercial in Philadelphia, according to the station.
"All of a sudden as we hit you know it was just the hardest hit, all the things from the ceiling started dropping," he said. "It hit me on the head, but I got a hard head." |

With as much energy he puts into his commercials, it's not hard to imagine the stresses on his body... I saw a quote where he said was hit on the head by something from the overhead bin and joked that it was ok because he's got a hard head.
I wonder if he had a clot or something that caused a heart attack or stroke brought on by the stress of the plane landing? Or maybe something as a result of hitting his head?
Or the crack he was smoking to be so exited over Big City Slider Stations.
I met him in the local Home Depot about 5-7 years ago when Oxy Clean first made the jump from TV only to stores... he was pretty cool and chilled out. A friend and I were in there picking up something and he was just sitting in a metal folding chair in back of a cheap plastic table with a few tubs of Oxy Clean on display... no one even seemed to notice he was there, everyone was just walking past him... we stopped and talked to him for a few minutes, can't remember what about... he seemed pretty bored.
He's the one TV pitchman I'll miss... besides Ed McMahon and his old Conceco Direct commercials. |
