I have been having some starting difficulties with my Regal in our hot weather 90+ degrees lately. I had the check engine light come on and I went to O' Riley's and used their tester and it pointed to the EGR valve giving me an error code of P1406 "EGR Valve Pintle Position Circuit". I replaced the EGR valve and the check engine light went away. That was 2-3 weeks ago. The problem still persists.
I have replaced the vacuum hoses and I was beginning to focus on the "Fuel Pressure Regulator" until I accidently caught this; please continue reading below.
I have also noticed that this problem occurs when I drive the car for 15-30 minutes so it is up to normal operating temperature. I then, for an example, go into a restaurant and eat dinner coming out in 45 min to an hour. This gives the under hood temperatures time to max out.
When I go to start the car it cranks, 5-10 seconds, like it should but doesn't start. I will turn the starter off and try it again and the same thing happens. Possibly once or twice more and it will start.
Now day before yesterday, I had the problem and rather than reset the starter I turned the key all the way off. Then when I turned it back on and initiated the starter circuit the car immediately started. So when it happened again yesterday I tried the same approach. Turned the ignition switch completely off and then tried to start the car and it started immediately.
Sorry for the lengthy post but I hoped to get the story straight and understandable.
Does anyone have a clue what I should check for next??
Thanks,
