[INFO] Central Air

Looking to have central air installed. Looking for recommendations of an installer. We prefer Carrier, as we get a UTC discount.

Shelton area.

Thanks

Re: [INFO] Central Air

I had central air installed a few years ago, and it is great. If you don't mind a suggestion ... consider getting a heat pump, not just an AC unit. The extra cost is worth based on my experience.

I was actually thinking about that, as an alternate source of heat in addition to my oil furnace.

Don't know if I want to spend the money though.

Re: [INFO] Central Air

In the fall, spring and most of the winter our primary heat source is the heat pump. It costs less than oil. Though the price of electricity and oil seem to change over time. The heat pump doesn't introduce any soot, and is a great compliment to oil based on my experience.

I don't think the cost of going from an AC only solution to a heat pump was that much compared to the total cost of the installation.

Any idea what it would cost for a 1300 square foot house with 6 rooms plus bathrooms?

I don't want to break the bank on this.

Re: [INFO] Central Air

When we got quotes, prices were all over the place. We didn't go with the lowest bidder. I think the heat pump added $1,200 to the total bill.

I'd suggest checking with the Better Business Bureau and the Licensing Dept of the State to see if there have been complaints filed against who you narrow it down to.

We went with ENT out of Wallingford. We have a split system and the old system needed to be replaced.

They weren't the lowest price, but that's not how I shop for these things. They offered the best solution to our needs; a flex back to reduce noise and a trunk duct to keep the air flow constant out of the registers.

I went with a small contractor that was recommended to me last year, 2400sqft with 2 Trane heat pumps were just under 18k, that included hydrocoils for backup heat and we got rid of the baseboard heaters (I'm in Shelton too). Much lower than any bids from major contractors who wanted 20k+ with a single unit. An almost identical setup from Encon was 40k... the heat pumps option was $900 for both units, otherwise would have been 17k.

So, I have two appointments scheduled for Wednesday. East Coast A/C out of Shelton, and Air Perfect out of Milford.

Like I said, I need to stay with a company that installs carrier, as they are a UTC company, and we get a discount.
