[CATV] widescreen sd through cable box?

does anyone know if charter will ever begin broadcasting non-hd service in widescreen format?

speed is the only channel i even have cable for (motorcycle racing) and i noticed today the edges are so chopped the text is missing. speed is now in hd and they are broadcasting widescreen (as are a lot of channels now) and charter is simply chopping off the sides instead of resizing.

how long until they catch up with the times and start broadcasting (if ever) in widescreen like i would hope they would do months ago.

That isn't happening on my system and if the channel is broadcast at 480i it isn't going to be broadcast like that. Maybe the cable box or TV is set to stretch or Zoom?

My cable has been doing this for a long time now.
I thought it was them messing with it for the conversion to digital OTA but it has not gotten any better. Seems to have gotten worse.
My cable box is an old Mot. that may be crapping out.
Charter said i could bring it in a get a new box, but the new boxes do not have time on them.
A FREE HD signal pass through would be nice...
