| 2WIRE 3800 HGV-B settings help/FAQ request
Hi all, just checking in to the forums to ask about my Gateway settings. The thing that bothers me is the ping is enabled now on the RG. I found this out when I ran a security scan from Symantec's website found here -> »security.symantec.com/sscv6/WelcomePage.asp (You may need to click on the continue to security check button.) I am fairly new to ATT U-VERSE (3-5 months) so I need some good advice about more than just a few settings. I know all I have to do is check block ping in the firewall settings page. I guess the question is what tools or tests do I need to consider using now to evaluate the service (tools that need ping enabled -like line tests). Also, is there such a thing as fast track on U-VERSE systems. As You might have surmised I am a gamer at heart, and need to ask about optimization as well. So here are all questions for the potential helpers. 1. Which tool do I start with to evaluate the quality and speed of the service. 2. What settings will help with speed but keep me secure? If there are any FAQs I could not find them. 3. Is there such a thing as fast track on U-VERSE and how to optimise for gaming.
Thanks in advance Guys and Gals |

| 1) AT&T's speed test is here
»helpme.att.net/dsl/speedtest/
One of the better third party speed tests is »speedtest.net/
I've found the best way to monitor the quality of service is by signing up for the line monitoring service on this site. It will give you graphs from the east and west coasts and show you outages.
2) Being pingable does not really affect your security all that much, but you can change that here, as well as block specific services.

In general if you want to access advanced logs and features of the gateway, go here:
»192.168.1.254/mdc
3) Sadly, no. We're stuck with pings that are 10-15ms higher than ADSL. -- AT&T U-Hearse Your funeral. Delivered.

4 edits | reply to matt8911 Hey I just did a line monitoring test and here are the results with a link »/linequality/nil/2537960 I may have had the settings wrong when I first started the test so maybe thats why I had problems. I put the machine in the DMZ-Plus mode. I had to then restart the machine to get a new address and start the test. I also unstealthed the firewall. In the end, I did manage to become pingable. I will try one more test and then get the speed tests next. Here is latest line quality test that still has one problem again, you see all red bars? »/linequality/nil/2538238
What would cause that red bar area and my first hop problem (100% loss and high latency on "your first hop ping")
###########SETTINGS SUMMARY############### EDIT ADVANCED FIREWALL SETTINGS page Stealth mode, block ping and strict UDP session control are unchecked, for this line test. Under "outbound control" the boxes are all checked except net bios and under attack detection all are checked exept packet flood. ########################################
