I changed a few things...
I added ip route-cache flow to the outbound FastEthernet port. This gives me ~11 Mbps down and 3Mbps up. I think that is probably the best the 2621 can do.
However, using ip inspect got results as low as 768Kbps down to 5Mbps down.
Interesting.

Any config hints on the inbound and outbound ports?

I've got a 2621, 64MB DRAM/16MB Flash, and a 2912. As an experiment, I configured the 2621 for NAT/PAT and to provide DHCP, 192.168.1.x/26. When I run speedtest.net and speakeasy, I get about 7Mbps down and about 2.5Mbps up. On a regular Linksys router/switch, I can get 14Mbps/3Mbps at speakeasy/speedtest. I have IP CEF set on the 2621.
I know it is an older router/switch setup, but the performance is identical to my "BearNet" setup that had a 2620, 2611, and 2924, 2912 and the 2620 had a NM-4E to connect to the 2611. I do have Comcast at Turbo so I know I have the BW potential.
I was hoping to replace my Linksys with this setup as I have my house wired for Ethernet.
Any hints? Only ACL so far is to allow the 192.168.1.x net for PAT.

James From my experience, I've noticed that Internet speed tests tend to use a lot of packets that the router will deam as fragmented. You may need to configure the CBAC (ip inspect) firewall with its ability to reassemble fragmented packets. I found this out the hard way on my 871. Once configured, I was able to get a better picture of what my device was capable of. |
