However, if everyone did that, they'd have to massively expand the CO's to get enough wire running to everyone.]]></description>

We bought the Motorola SB5100 from CompuSmart and returned our old CyberSurfer thinking that they would remove the $3.00 modem rental fee.  They didn't do that and cannot even confirm we returned our old modem. They cannot even determine if the modem we bought is not actually their modem so they will not remove the rental fee from our statement. The rep told us to go back to the store we purchased the modem from and, of course, CompuSmart no longer exists.]]></description>

The SN and MACs of all these modems are in a Rogers database.<br><br>Rogers position is that other modems, even if they are models they use, may not be supportable due to custom firmware, out of date firmware etc.  If they aren't models they use, then they won't be able to get firmware upgrades.]]></description>

I called Rogers and they gave me no reason, because they (Customer Serivce and Technical Support) saw no record of this e-mail, and were not aware of any upgrades/construction in my area which would require me to get a new modem.<br><br>Those rascals.]]></description>

I also picked up a second 5100 about a year ago on ebay to try cloning my modem. It's not hard and worked like a charm. I used my own MAC so no one get their panties in a knot. I wanted a second unit to take with me when I go to the cottage. I wonder if this is about the 5100 being vulnerable to cloning. If they're not rolling out DOCSIS 3, then what's the rush and why wouldn't everyone get an email with their monthly bill (if you opted for electronic billing/notification)? ]]></description>

There was lots of Rogers advertisements... loads of notices of features being dropped... nothing about exchanging my modem... but there, from early June, is a lovely notice telling me that my Better Choice Bundle is being dropped.]]></description>

The deadline was August 7th.<br><br>Just wondering if anyone got this. I find it strange that Rogers is forcing its customers to go in and exchange the modem rather than have them come in and exchange it for us. We pay good money for Internet! Also wanted to confirm with other users here to make sure it's not spam mail.
