Re: Noob needing help w/ O.C.

okay so what they are saying is your Bus Speed can be up to 1600 mhz on the CPU or all the way up to 2000 in some cases. It's all dependent on the FSB on the motherboard. Like i have a 1:1 ratio on my RAM with my FSB which is @ 411 and from the 800mhz stock it is only overclocked to 822mhz. Depending on the memory it won't be overclockable well. Right now my Front Side Bus is @ 1633mhz which is over the 1333mhz rated max bus speed.
So just keep the FSB to RAM ratio @ 1:1, and then overclock the FSB slowly to reach your goal that you want to get on a overclock. Slowly up the voltage if it doesn't stay stable. While if your ram is getting too high loosen the timings to get a higher overclock on the memory.
Please post the rest of your system so we can have a better idea what you might expect.

So... I don't plan on doing any heavy over-clocking, atleast not for a few months. There is one thing I want to overclock though. I have an ASUS P6T6 WS Revolution Mobo in my new setup, and i have 1600mhz ram. Now the ram IS 1600 Mhz, but the Mobo says it supports 1600 mhz ram (O.C.). So would I need to do something would the motherboard, or would I need to set the Ram timings and mess with the CPU:Ram ratios and all that? Or would it just be a matter of simply increasing the voltage? And if I do need to adjust the CPU:Ram ratios, say if I was using CPU-Z (doing it through windows at first, not BIOS; I'll do that later), would I just go to the Memory tab and set the frequency to 1600 Mhz? (Timings I figure I'll use are the ones it says to use for now, since I figure I'm not making the ram do more than it is supposed to. The timings would be 6-7-6-18)

Sorry if this is a really stupid question, but I'm new to this stuff
