| Comcast DOCSIS3.0
Just an FYI to people looking for faster speeds. A couple nights ago Comcast did a maintenance in my node, and either replaced the Motorola BSR I was connected to or moved me to an Arris C4. This wouldn't normally be a big deal besides the fact that now I have three discrete bonded channels available to my modem.
the 25/5 and 50/5 packages shouldn't be to far off!

| I've got 22/5 out in Kennesaw. They came out and brought me a Docsis 3.0 modem and it pretty much rocks. Web pages go by so fast that I can barely read the content. Whoa!
Then I realized a bummer. I don't download many videos and I probably only download ubuntu realeases every 6 months. Music streaming and voip phones worked fine with 8/2. For me it was probably overkill. But so far I'm keeping it. -- "No matter how I struggle and strive, I'll never get out of here alive". Hank Williams |

2 edits | reply to odog May I ask what does DOCSIS3.0 do for the rest of us? I have the 1Mbps/.356 comcast service. Will I get lower latency?
My bandwidth usage is less than 1Mbps, so I don't need any more than 1Mbps bandwidth. Most webpages are less than 200KB anyways.
ping google.com 16ms ping google.com.au 38ms ping google.co.jp 47ms
I would say my DOCSIS2.0 Comcast connection is fast enough for me.

| reply to odog It won't do anything for latency. It just bonds several downstream channels together. So if you have 30mbps before...30 * 4 channel bonding = 120 mbps. But it won't do anything for latency -- Stupidity, like hydrogen, is one of the basic building blocks of the Universe.

But it won't do anything for latency His latency numbers are rather suspect anyway.. 38ms to Australia? 47ms to Japan? You'll get around 160-200ms to Japan, and an additional 80-100ms to get to Australia.
D3 doesn't directly lower latency just the likelihood of contention on the RF layer. That contention is which causes much of the latency in a DOCSIS network. |

| reply to Canezoid They have been doing a lot of work around me and actually had everything go out yesterday and realized them or ATT had switched the cable coming into my house for some reason. I called and they had no clue so I switched cables back and everything working but Internet is slow now.
Can you get DOCSIS 3.0 modems swapped for free from Comcast? I think my modem is about 5 years old and is a SciAtlanta model. -- Tron: There are! Since Comcast has been updating all around to DOC 3 and bumping up tiers, like the old "performance" tier to 12/2 that older equipment will not handle the higher tier rates.
DOC3 upgrades just done around here in July and I upgraded to the Blast tier, 16/2, but this is what I see >>

It's not abnormal to see upwards of 28M DL (powerboost) when not to busy out there. Upgrade to newer equipment may do wonders for your connection. |
