[HSI] T3 Timeouts

I've got a thread with Charter over on the direct forums regarding disconnects I've been getting the past couple of weeks. While browsing I noticed a few others experiencing the same thing, specifically in the router logs it shows T3 timeouts.

I'm curious what responses others have gotten on the issue. I had my modem replaced and the line checked 2 weeks ago but it hasn't improved.

Re: [HSI] T3 Timeouts

T3 timeouts usually occur about once a week during the weekly maintenance... but if more frequently and during the day, there's likely an issue between you and the headend/CMTS (i.e. noise on the line).

Thanks, they've got a tech coming out tomorrow to look at it. When they changed the modem 2 weeks ago the line tested clean but hopefully they'll catch it this time.

Re: [HSI] T3 Timeouts

Okay I have a similiar issue. how often do u have this problem. My issue is that i have to reload pages constantly. Tons of T3 errors.... Rarely run a bit torrent programs and smokeping has been showing packet loss of close to 20%. also them sending a tech out there wil probably not address the issue. I assume the poster above is right or it is the lines coming to ur house. Maybe a animal bit into one...

According to the techs my upstream power level was too high. It should be no higher than 50 and mine was at 52. They explained that the power levels fluctuate and if they go over 55 it can cause a disconnect. They did some work outside and as a result my level averages about 48 now.

Upstream Power 48.5 dBmV

Re: [HSI] T3 Timeouts

Basically, most current modems can only put out 55. So if you are putting out 55 and suddenly need more power, you loose connection. If you are putting out 50 and need more power you have the headroom (50-55) to be able to draw on. Some of the early Linksys modems could only put out 50, which caused a lot of problems with charter.

they could of told u this from the office also u should of been able to look at ur modems config page to monitor the levels. They most likely put on some kind of filter to fix this.?. So basically they installed your service improperly and made you have a bunch of trouble calls where the mis diagnosed their original error.
