| reply to marti Actually, why doesn't she just pass the public IP to the router? that would make her pingable. That option is on the configuration page.
Set the modem to "always attempt to connect" on the same page and at the bottom there should be a question to the effect of "Pass the public IP to the lan" or "allow the public IP to be your IP?" and it's a yes or no question.

| reply to marti only other option at that point would be to bridge the modem. (prior at top, before my suggestion). If putting the modem in bridge mode doesn't work it's at the router or PC at that point. The modem's interface would be out of the picture as it would be disabled. |

| reply to marti Ended up talking to a guy in San Ramon CA about the modem. He said the modem is not stopping the pings! Either my router is stopping them, or some software inside the computer is causing this. The settings I have on my router are what Dlink says to have to be pingable.
I have Zone Alarm set up to allow pings on my main computer. I have a total of five computers in this house, and I don't know what settings they have. -- Team Discovery |

| reply to marti is it possible zone alarm is dropping them? Might try to go to "game mode" and see if you are pingable that way. I kept thinking when you select that last option all the traffic (pings and all) should be coming to you.
you could also try plugging directly into the modem and try it then. If it doesn't work try disabling or putting zone alarm into "game mode" and see if that allows the pings. |

| reply to marti Personally I would put the modem in full bridge mode (let the D-Link establish the PPPoE Session) and see what happens.

| Here is the Setup instructions for Bridge Mode for a Motorola 2210 modem and a Dlink DIR-615 Router.
First, access your modem's GUI and select the Advanced Tab,then select PPP Location Tab.
Second, select Bridge Mode by putting a "Tick" in the circle. And now Click "Save Changes".
The modem will then take you to a new page, the "PPP Location Warning" page. It gives you instructions on how to gain access to the modem when in Bridge Mode and how to RESET the modem back to factory defaults. This is normal, don't panic.
Now configure your router's WAN type to PPPoE/Dynamic IP and put your username/password in the appropriate boxes. Save Setting at the bottom of the page.
Now power cycle both the modem and router by unplugging them for 5 to 10 seconds. After about 45 seconds to a minute, the router should authenticate your PPPoE login and recieve an IP address for the WAN connection. -- Got a Clark,Crown,Drexel forklift and need technical advice? Ask me about it. |

1 edit | reply to Mountaineer1 That didn't work for me with this modem. In fact it made the modem act bricked and I had no Internet connectivity at all.
The only thing that worked was to select "PPPoE is on the computer" (but in fact it's on my DLink) and then that worked. -- "Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini
