Re: DSLReports can't ping me!

I've seen the condition that I thought was a "hung session state" quite a few times, although at the time I had no idea that was what it was called. I found that all I needed to do to clear it was a quick power cycle of the modem rather than having to wait the 5 or more minutes for it to self-clear.

I speculated that the dying gasp signal of the modem to the RT was being relayed in some way to the aggregation router to also clear the PPPoE session.

Hi Guys, I have a more serious problem than being pingable, as my connection is still going in and out. I wanted to run line tests, but don't feel confident in messing with any settings right now, as I never know when I am "in the dark again."

Unplugging and plugging in the modem restores connectivity. It happened again late last night and again today.

I am wondering if I have a very sick modem. I do have two old Speedstream modems -- one or the other should still work -- so I can see if my internet problem is the modem.

Great suggestions y'all, just wish I felt confident to try them right now.

The next time the internet goes away you should find out if it is a loss of sync, atm circuit down or a PPPoE problem.

A simple way to make yourself pingable is to setup one of your other modems to match the motorola and switch modems

If your Motorola modem is less than a year old, you should be able to get a replacement for it. Your serial number of 34474088 is probably within the recalled range of "35xxxxxx (maybe slightly lower) up to 38xxxxxx and possibly up to 43xxxxxx".

You posted this earlier in this thread
"First Use Date 2008/02/04 15:55:52 GMT"

I would call anyway, tech support has been known to warranty replace a "out of warranty modem"
It may help to disconnect the modem before calling, and follow the script to the letter

Shame on you for not trying one of your spare modems last week

I didn't think the modem was the problem guys. The SS modem I am now using is much older that the Moto that appears to be dying.

That was my feeble attempt to inject some humor into this thread

On the serious side.........when you call tech support
your one modem the motorola has just one light on the power light and it is steady red

I called AT&T to tell them my Moto modem is dead. They said "no free replacement" if it is over a year old. I am not happy about this, as the modem should have lasted for years!

He has one watery eye on you at the moment. . .

No much impressed with the Moto modems these days. Seemed like for quite a while modems improved with each "upgrade". I got a 2210 when I moved and sent it back within a week.

Hey where is my u-verse anyway Mr InsideScoopMan?!

So the moral of that story is that if you have a 2210 modem in the recalled batch, you should get it replaced before your year is up whether it is giving problems or not. It is a known problem that these modems in the bad serial number range have a minimal MTBF (mean time between failures).

If you have conscience qualms about asking for a replacement of a perfectly functioning modem, simply place the modem over a heat source such as a router or in a poorly ventilated position to accelerate its demise or to initiate its malfunctioning operation.

actually, I would ask alex bluepoint951 See Profile he has better tracking in TX than I do. Which is a good thing! since he dispatches in that area. He's been quite a nice addition to the direct forum army!

It's like I put in for a Stealth bomber, and got the nuclear submarine for free!

Post in direct, I can check this out when I get back from blowing myself up to do it monday.

I promise I will use the M-150, bottle rockets, and other assorted powerful fireworks with care. Just because I set myself on fire once doesn't mean anything.
