It is a known problem that these modems in the bad serial number range have a minimal MTBF (mean time between failures).<br><br>If you have conscience qualms about asking for a replacement of a perfectly functioning modem, simply place the modem over a heat source such as a router or in a poorly ventilated position to accelerate its demise or to initiate its malfunctioning operation.]]></description>

I wanted to run line tests, but don't feel confident in messing with any settings right now, as I never know when I am "in the dark again."<br><br>Unplugging and plugging in the modem restores connectivity.  It happened again late last night and again today.  <br><br>I am wondering if I have a very sick modem. I found that all I needed to do to clear it was a quick power cycle of the modem rather than having to wait the 5 or more minutes for it to self-clear.  <br><br>I speculated that the dying gasp signal of the modem to the RT was being relayed in some way to the aggregation router to also clear the PPPoE session.]]></description>

I'm still scratching my head over that one.]]></description>

If you don't you could end up looking at the att username/password tool page<br><br></div>What that's called is a "hung session state" our redbacks (as least in the 13 state) will clear the session after like 5 minutes max. If you happen to do that just wait about 5-10 minutes. the redback/bras unit should update that your session is no longer there with the atm packet and it will drop the session out of the redback/bras units. <br><br>only time I have seen a "hung session" hang around is if a piece of equipment keeps trying to constantly log in like a mad deamon. The problem wasn't that I couldn't access my router, I could no problem.... but the router couldn't login to AT&T DSL even with the correct PPPoE settings.   It couldn't even pull an IP down from AT&T so I had no internet connectivity at all.<br><br>Made me think I'd "broken" the modem.   :D<br><br>I replaced it with an old Westell I had lying around and immediately my router logged on and I had an IP and internet.<br><br>I few hours later I switched it back after I was able to reset the modem (I left it unplugged for awhile.) <br><br>That's when I tried the "PPPoE is on the computer" on the 2210 and lo and behold, it worked.<br><br>I'll try again, however.  :D<br><small>--<br>"Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini<br></small>]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/733611"><b>d_l</b></A> : Its all based on hearsay in posts, but the range seems to be about  35xxxxxx (maybe slightly lower) up to 38xxxxxx and possibly up to 43xxxxxx. There has been nothing official posted, but people complaining to tech support about modems failing in that range have gotten replacements (refurbished modems).<br><br>If you have a serial number like 15xxxxxxx or higher, then it is a revised version modem.]]></description>

Mounaineer1's instructions are correct under normal circumstances, IE like with the older SpeedStream modem, you placed the modem in Bridged mode, and then used your router to login to your pppoe.    However with this new AT&T modem,  for whatever reason, that's not correct.  I've even read the very latest version of these modem's firmware eliminates the third choice of "Bridged Mode."<br><br>I first tried bridge mode myself.   I lost all Internet connectivity, and my router could not pull any IP from AT&T.   Resetting the modem didn't fix it, it seemed bricked.   I actually had to unplug it from the power and leave it unplugged.  A couple hours later I plugged it back in and used the reset but held it reset (using a small screwdriver) for 10 seconds or so.   When I released reset, the modem powered up and booted up like normal, I was able to access the modem via it's IP (I forgot offhand, I think it was &raquo;<A HREF="http://192.168.1.254" >192.168.1.254</A>)  and from there I was able to select "PPPoE on the computer."<br><br>From that point on, the Dlink router now logs me in and everything works great.<br><small>--<br>"Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini<br></small>]]></description>

Then I put the settings back to where they were -- still no connectivity! <description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/560453"><b>Mountaineer1</b></A> : Here is the Setup instructions for Bridge Mode for a Motorola 2210 modem and a Dlink DIR-615 Router.<br><br>First,access your modem's GUI and select the Advanced Tab,then select PPP Location Tab.<br><br>Second,select Bridge Mode by putting a "Tick" in the circle. And now Click "Save Changes".<br><br>The modem will then take you to a new page,the "PPP Location Warning" page. It gives you instructions on how to gain access to the modem when in Bridge Mode and how to RESET the modem back to factory defaults. This is normal,don't panic.<br><br>Now configure your router's WAN type to PPPoE/Dynamic IP and put your username/password in the appropriate boxes. Save Setting at the bottom of the page.<br><br>Now power cycle both the modem and router by unplugging them for 5 to 10 seconds. After about 45 seconds to a minute,the router should authenticate your PPPoE login and recieve an IP address for the WAN connection.<br><small>--<br>Got a Clark,Crown,Drexel forklift and need technical advice? I kept thinking when you select that last option all the traffic (pings and all) should be coming to you. <br><br>you could also try plugging directly into the modem and try it then. If it doesn't work try disabling or putting zone alarm into "game mode" and see if that allows the pings. ]]></description>

Either my router is stopping them, or some software inside the computer is causing this.  The settings I have on my router are what Dlink says to have to be pingable.<br><br>I have Zone Alarm set up to allow pings on my main computer.
