150GB @ 20/40/60mbps coming to Montreal

A guy in my building at 7400 Sherbrooke W was doing signups for VDN today (fiber-based cable and internet). Last I heard they were still offering a pitiful 10meg @ 100GB. So I quizzed the rep on that.

Long story short, VDN is launching 20/40/60Mbps tiers next month in their buildings in Montreal, at a 150GB cap. No prices yet.

It's better than Videotron, but still crap if you can get a decent sync with Colba. Though maybe I'll try it for a month anyways and give a review.

Though god help you if you go over their caps.

God never helped me or my parents when we went over our 20GB cap with Videotron and had to pay $20 in overages for those measly 2.5GB that I went over.

... Oh wait, we were supposed to be talking about VDN. Isn't VDN owned by Bell? Bell launching internet with speeds over 16Mbit/s? None of this adds up at all.

Yes it is, as far as I know. I don't get it either, but that's what the dude said.

VDN is indeed cable based. I met a rep one time in an acquaintance's apartment building. At that time though the overage policy was: "we cut your access" (or so the rep said).

IMHO, don't expect any good deals from them.

Anyone knows if they will deploy their services on all the island of Montreal in the next few years ?

VDN already only serves a very restricted area around Atwater. This is a new service, they don't even offer there yet. I doubt it will be available much of anywhere.

I thought VDN only serves condos and apartments, and not just in the Atwater area.

They are serving MDUs mostly. Yes, they've been bought out by Bell but it seems they remained "independant".

Bell is testing 20/40/60 speeds and trying to keep it under crtc's noses?

Wow, bell is got to be the most shady company out there. Atleast they beat rogers 50/2 for $150.

But only 120gb plans.... wow they still dont get it, especialy with the 2gb up speeds.

Seriously who in their right minds would need 50-60 down when you could only get 2 up, when most websites except the large ones. usually only allow 500kb downloads. I think Nvidia goes upto 1mb down and M$ as well, not many others out there that get that high.

Me I would want 25/25 and a 1000gb cap then I would be willing to pay over $150.

Again, VDN is not Bell. It's not run as a Bell division, most of the people that were present before the buyout are still working for the company.

VDN = Fiber network, last-mile in coax for TV/Internet. Some of the newer MDUs are last-mile VDSL.

Bell and VDN customers are completely separated, VDN has their own support, billing, marketing stuff.

The new 20/40/60Mbps profiles are on VDSL.

That's wonderful, but those caps are still a deal killer. Their offer to sell you more bandwidth in 40GB chunks for $20 a pop doesn't help. If they had reasonable caps and that 40 GB cost $2 or $4 then maybe some more people would be interested.
