Re: Home Network issue

It's called Apparel Magic. It's an industry specific database program that runs through Apple Filemaker Pro.

That helps a lot more, now that we are talking about Apple machines running Mac OS, not Windows machines. The problem with running Client/Server, without a specific machine as a server, you are working on the server as a client.

Double check the software to make sure that it recognizes the new network, since it was set up on the Linky orig. As for connecting the linky, there is no need, unless you are trying to separate the workstations from the private home systems to make a separate network, which can cause other problems.

Well actually they are XP machines running the windows version of Filemaker 8.5 as the backend and Apparel Magic is the frontend.

Apparel Magic support calls the 2 machine setup Peer to Peer.

You log in to the program on the computer that has the Apparel magic file. Then once logged in, the second computer can launch Filemaker and open the file on the first computer remotely.

From there both computers are using the program independently with any changes taking place in real time visible to both pc's.

Well I was only contemplating that if I couldn't get it to work through the 2wire. But if I need to, is there a FAQ that explains the best way to do this and the pros and cons?

i'm going to log in remotely to the host computer through gotomypc right now and see if there are any settings in filemaker that addresses this.

One other thing. I do know that the AM file is just over 100 MB. But I don't know how much info is actually transfered over the network once the 2nd PC requests information. So it could be the G network is just not fast enough to handle the bandwidth. But I have would to check with AM support to be sure.

This is the only relevant screen I could find. But everything looks okay to me.

Again, check the firewall. This is more of a networking issue, then a U-verse issue.

The installer's supervisor called yesterday morning to see how everything was running. She explained the problem and he came over in the afternoon.

Ultimately found out that the problem was with the McAfee firewall on the host computer. The other computer has NIS. For some reason it's not playing nice with the RG LAN. Disabling the software firewall solves the problem.

We checked all of the settings in the firewall and agreed that it should be letting the traffic pass through but it just won't.

Anybody with McAfee have any similar compatibility issues with the RG?

That would be because McAfee did not recognize the new network as trusted.

That's what I thought at first too. But even after we made sure it was in the trusted network it still didn't work.

To be honest it doesn't really matter as the subscription has expired and she will replace it with something else. It's just odd that they won't work together.

Thanks for your help Greg_Z
