the new rogers modem costs 99 + tax
you can buy a used one for 30, so I'll save 80+
but if it doesn't work then I'm out 30
but I'm thinking the serial number on a different modem will be different than the rogers one and they will question it. |

1 edit | The promotion probably requires both the purchase of the modem and enrollment for the service, and previous promotions like this were typically processed at point-of-sale. If that is actually the case (check the fine print and/or call and ask) that means that you wouldn't qualify for the $99 credit or 3 months free if you're signing up with a used modem. |

| reply to nissan240les You can use your own modem. Just tell them the MAC address and serial number and it'll work on their network.
As for the promotion, you essentially are getting a free modem. You pay $99, and you receive a $99 credit on your Rogers account. Why would you go out and buy your own? |

| TBD ... that is assuming the person you talk with will bend the rules. The rule has been that the modem must be one that was sold by Rogers, or through a Rogers authorized retailer. All those modems were in their databases. Getting a modem added has USUALLY been impossible, unless you very fortunate (for example, you knew someone at Rogers who could/would add your modem to the register). |

but if it doesn't work then I'm out 30 but you already stated you get a $99 credit when you buy the modem from Rogers, so at most, you are out the taxes...buying a used modem would be more expensive as the new one is essentially "free". -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |

See the thread: »Rogers High Speed Internet Free Modem Offer/3 mnoths Free
the caveat: you supply your own modem they may wash their hands of problems. Why bother if the modem is basically free?
