Disappointing speeds on 1500-3000/384-512 plan

Hello DSLExtreme,

I know gm is on vacation right now and I don't expect a response until he returns but I figured I'd post my question/concern so that I'm in the queue for when he does.

The long and short of it is that I fell for the advertising without reading the fine print. I saw PRO 3Mbps available at my current residence for the same price I was paying ATT for half the speed. Free upgrade I thought, but actually the plan I was signing up for said "up to 3Mbps" which translates to "anywhere from 1500-3000 down".

Now this wouldn't be too bad if I didn't draw the short straw and end up on the lower end of that scale. Currently I'm getting around 1690 down (Never seen 1700 actually) and I've waited the 10 day ramp up period that I've seen mentioned in other threads. I've also changed out my long phone cord (from modem to wall jack) with a short phone cord and I've tried connecting my modem directly to my computer.

It would seem that just under 1700 is the best I'm going to get, which is a shame because not only was I expecting 3000, but had I known I was only going to get a boost of 500 kbps (1700 minus my previous rate of 1200), I wouldn't have bothered adding another bill and I surely wouldn't have signed the year long contract.

The primary reason I'm posting today is to see if a dslextreme tech is able to work some behind the scenes magic to help me reach a speed more in line with what I was expecting, but also to reiterate the age old adage of "read the fine print".

Sincerely,
Matthew Madson

Re: Disappointing speeds on 1500-3000/384-512 plan

Hi Matthew,

AT&T does have speed ranges for their packages. In the case of the package you selected it is 1500-3000/384-512. We do list the speed ranges on our website under the package that you select.

I took a look your line readings and they are marginal. I went ahead and opened a ticket with our support team. They will open a ticket with AT&T to see if you line can hold anymore without losing sync. They will bump it to the highest speed possible.

Thanks

Fantastic! Thank you so much George for all your help even while on vacation. I suppose this is why DSLExtreme has such rave reviews. With that type of customer service I'm happy to stick around. Thanks again!
