Re: NJN & WLIW

Given WNET and WLIW are under common ownership, they've decided to only broadcast one HD signal at this time. You could view their two RF channels as one pool of bandwidth. Over the two channels, you have a bunch of SD sub-channels and one HD channel. If WLIW put up a HD signal, it would duplicate much of what is on WNET's HD signal. It would be a waste of bandwidth.

IIRC, NJN and WLIW worked something out a few years ago where NJN took precedence over WLIW in NJ. Maybe that's changed.

u r wrong sir. WLIW & WNET have different programming so their HD channels would not duplicate each other. NJN did not work out anything with WLIW. NJN is a must carry in all of NJ state and parts of NYC. WLIW is must carry is Long Island, NYC, parts of North NJ.

sure all 3 channels are PBS and will have some of the same programming but they are all unique and valuable services. WLIW was scheduled to go HD in february but that changed when the digital transition got pushed back to june. they should be HD by end of summer.

If that was the case, NJN would have wider distribution across the entire NY DMA, not just NJ.

And, there would not be cable systems in NJ that don't carry WLIW.

If the only reason they delayed going HD was because the transition date was moved from February (which to me makes no sense, but ok) then why didn't they do it in June?
