I remember him playing in the OHL too, especially during the Knights-67s league championship series the in 2005. He played really well then and I'd hope he could play that well in the NHL but it hasn't turned out that way for some reason. Perhaps a change of scenery will do him some good and the Islanders could use some still-young-with-potential talent for their team so this could be the opportunity he needs. -- The thoughts expressed in the above post are those of the poster, and can only be attributed to his state of mind at the time of posting. | reply to dirtyjeffer Pierre McGuire was commenting on Schremp the other day during his daily slot on Team1200 (just after 8am, in case you want to tune in via their website) and the problem is his skating: he was good enough at the junior level to seem fast but at the NHL level he's lacking speed and finesse and he hasn't improved in several years. He's got good hands but he's not a Ryan Shannon in the speed department nor is he big so he just hasn't worked out so far.
Hopefully a new start with NYI will motivate him to work on his skating and find a spot on a team that needs his other abilities. -- The thoughts expressed in the above post are those of the poster, and can only be attributed to his state of mind at the time of posting. Join Team Helix

| reply to dirtyjeffer Schremp is claimed off waivers by the Islanders (from the Oilers).
i never understood the Schremp story...he was AWESOME with the Knights, was a first round pick (25th overall)...he was a sniper, who had wicked hands and quick skating...not a big guy, so probably lacked in the physical department, but man, he could skate and shoot the puck like so few could...i wonder if he just got depressed and demotivated in Edmonton...unfortunately, the Islanders aren't much better, but perhaps playing with Tavares will help inject new life...i always liked Schremp and he was great in London when he was a Knight.

The upsides are easy, he's a 30 goal scorer, he's 21. the downsides: 1)Overpaid. Kessel will make more money this season then Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf, Simon Gagne, Mike Green, Jeff Carter, Martin Havlat, Mike Ribario, Alexander Semin. Which one of them wouldn't you rather have? 2)Leafs prospect pool. The leafs don't have any. Of there two best at after the lockout, they traded one away and ruined the other. The players you listed are all older than Kessel, he pretty much hit the 40 goal mark at 21 years of age while battling through Mono. Had he played all 82 games, he could easily hit 40 maybe even close to 50 goals. He only averaged 16 mins a game. He hasn't even peaked yet. Saying the Leafs don't have any prospects is a very ignorant statement. Ever heard of Kadri? Bozak? Stalberg? Gustavsson? They are all also better hockey players and paid less. Which is the point. That's all of 4 prospects, who may or may not pan out. Three of whom where not drafted....but clearly the leafs have prospects. Some are only paid a little bit more, how can you say Mike Green is a better hockey player, they don't have play the same position.
Prospects don't necessarily have to be drafted. I don't know where you got that from. |

Contrary to popular belief, the Leafs actually do have prospects. |

| reply to The Flash said by The Flash :said by Mauricio :Kessel is out until November. He seems to be an injury-prone type of player. No to mention his health issues a few years back. I think the Leafs overpaid for his services. Only time will tell though. Injury prone? The guy had Cancer and Mononucleosis. I said "seems" to be injury-prone. Given his past health issues, it is normal, in my opinion, to think that he is more at risk. |
