| Voip 800 # possible ? What I'm trying to do is find out how to get an 800# and avoid long distance charges for the incoming calls.
I called my local cable provider Cogeco. I was told that they don't offer 800 service through Voip. Is this something inherent to the structure of Voip or just this carrier?
Bell quoted 7 cents/minute which is their long distance rate or a few plans which work out to ~ .03/min
I'm wondering if there's a connection type that would avoid this and thought Voip would be the answer.
Anyone have experience with 800 #'s and forwarding?

| Re: Voip 800 # possible ? When my step-mother had an 800 for her home-office, they billed by the minute... she said it was more expensive for her than it would be for most people to have made the call using their long distance.
I know it's not VoIP, but are you trying to take on the cost for someone else or ...?

| Re: Voip 800 # possible ? if you're looking for free, stop looking. there is no such aminal as free minutes on a toll-free number. Long ago there was a company that offered free minutes, but you had to pay a monthly fee of $1500 + a T1 loop fee of about double the market price. VOIP doesn't make stuff free, it makes it less expensive than traditional services, usually by packaging multiple services into a single package. | |

So you want people to call an 800-number, and then have that number forward to your friend's business? Yeah, you can absolutely do that. Just sign up with any VoIP provider that offers 800 service and forwarding. You're going to pay per-minute inbound for the call however and might even have to pay again for the outbound "forwarded" portion of the call. | |
