SSD

I just bought the 13" MBP and am going to buy an aftermarket SSD. Any suggestions on brands?

Re: SSD

Intel X25-M, OCZ Vertex or Summit, or Super Talent ME (same as the Vertex).

As cabal suggests you really need to stick to a very few options that he mentioned.

The supertalent ultradrive ME and ocz vertex use an indilinx controller.

The x25-m is your best option, but is costly.

Many of the ssd drives available, especially at low prices, use the older jmicron controllers and they are not worth having. You would be better off sticking with a hard drive than spending money on them.

Re: SSD

Not meaning to hijack, but can you use one of these to boot and run Windows 7? Think of how fast your rig would run if you could load and run all of your programs and use a regular HD for data storage.

I bet SSDs are going to get really cheap before the end of the year. Would definitely not overpay right now.

They've gotten really cheap. We were paying $1,000 for 64GB around two years ago. Now you can get 32GB for around $100, and twice as fast.

It will be more than a year or two before they can get close to spinning platter prices.
