Anyone who is ashamed to be Canadian should consider relocating to another country. Why? if my answer was ashamed and you don't like my answer to f---ing bad it's my choice. -- The greatest mistake you can make in life is to be continuously fearing you will make one.
Next to knowing when to seize an opportunity, the most important thing in life is knowing when to forego an advantage. |

I'd be interested to hear who's ashamed, and why? |

Anyone who is ashamed to be Canadian should consider relocating to another country. Why?! That's an American attitude. If someone is ashamed to be Canadian, he probably has a reason and since it's a democracy, he has a right express that opinion to change a politic he doesn't like. |

| reply to Stewy I made a poll because there are issues that I am proud of and issues that I'm ashamed off.
For example I'm proud of our Canadian Forces but truly ashamed that we rank last on child care.
In 2005 these were the standings. energy consumption - 28th, greenhouse gas emissions - 26th, water consumption - 29th, sulfur oxides pollution - 27th, number of species at risk - 26th, nuclear waste - 30th.
I'm proud of our Country but ashamed that we can't do more compared to other countries.
As we mark our anniversary and wave the flag, are the areas that we have failed in more important than those that we have succeeded in. |

That's the Canadian way. including this poll. Key word is should. I never said they had to. It is my free right to express my feelings also. It is funny because I have been told go back to my own country when I am a Canadian citizen. Been told I am a foreigner. Even with all that bs I am still proud to be Canadian. |

1 edit | reply to Stewy I'm impartial. It's better than some countries, worse than others. I think our freedoms have been going down lately, and the social services have been slowly getting cut back which makes me slightly ashamed. (compared to some of the better E.U countries)
But when it comes to English speaking countries, I might have been born it's 1) Australian, 2) Canadian, 3) American, than 4) U.K.
Australia tops higher only because of the weather. They are a big more fascist and Americanized than Canada though IMO. -- "You're not supposed to be so blind with patriotism that you can't face reality. Wrong is wrong, no matter who says it."-Malcolm X

| reply to Stewy I have dual American/Canadian citizenship.
I am not embarrassed to be either. If I had to pick though, without a doubt I would choose American.
If I had one problem with Canadians, it would be that we dont appreciate our neighbour enough as far as the protection we get because of them. |

By "protection", do you mean the thousands of illegal guns that come flowing over our border every year that we can use to shoot ourselves, or are you referring to the fact that they have nukes aimed all over the world?
If the U.S. didn't have a de facto global policing role, we'd have to have a bigger and stronger military. Not a big deal. What we really should appreciate are the economic benefits of our bilateral trade. OTOH, the Americans should appreciate a guaranteed supply of Canadian resources -- especially oil, under NAFTA.
