PSU failure?

My sons Abit NF8/2.4Ghz AMD computer turned itself off yesterday out of the blue. Would not power up. Reset the CMOS. Press the power button and the fans all turn a rotation and it cuts off. Removed everything but the PSU and the Video Card and still nothing. Tried it without the Video Card. Nothing. Tried it with Ram in. Still nothing.

The light by the CMOS toggle shows solid red until i press the power button. I see the green light flicker, the CPU fan turns then it cuts off. I`m going to reseat the Heatsink/CPU tonight and see if that doesnt work. If not would you say I more than likely have a dead PSU?

I just bought a little PSU tester on ebay for 5 dollars. Wont get here for a couple of days tho.

The momentary fan "bump" is a Classic indication of either PSU Overload, or failure.

Thought so. Any recommendations on a cheap but decent 500w Power supply? Been years since i bought one. Reckon i can just browse newegg.
