Re: [DVR] Menu to turn on the STB???

Turning off the STB only reduces power consumption by about 5% -- saving 15-20 cents per month -- so there's no real point if you using it as a source for a HTPC.

I'm sorry, why aren't you just leaving the STB on all the time? I record via MCE and don't ever turn off my STB... The TV and the A/V receiver are the only items I ever turn off...

This replacement driver combined with a program called Hip may do what you need. I didn't research it completely but I think Hip will send macros to the ir blaster.

Yea i don't have a way to reprogram my IR blaster. I am using Widows Media Center(MC) with a Windows Remote. I understand why i need to press menu.... i was just trying to make it stay on or figure out a way to get MC to turn it on before changing the channel. the problem getting MC or the IR blaster to send the "on" command first is if the machine is already on, it will actually be turning it Off before changing the channel. That is why the Motorola was such a genious idea. It turned on when you change the channel, so you never accidentally turn it off or record an hour of "please press menu on your remote..." blinking on the screen.

I guess i just have to make sure i do not turn off the STB when watching and monitor my 3 year old

If it is displaying a message saying that the box is in standby mode, you need to press menu to watch FiOS TV, then all you need to do is press power (or menu) for the box. If you're using a non-FiOS remote (like an IR blaster from your computer), and you are able to change the channels, then you have the right code for the box in there. Just press power with that code applied, and it'll turn the box on.

If you can program your blaster to send two commands at once, then program it to send power to the TV and box at the same time. Problem solved.

This is easily done on the FiOS remote, but I don't know about the blaster. I'm pretty unfamiliar with IR blasters, so what I just said may not make sense, or work, but its the idea I was trying to get across.

There is no way to force it to turn on thru it's settings.
But can't you just leave the STB on all the time?
That's what I do with my HTPC and 6200... works like a charm

What you're seeing is the screen saver indicating the TV was on but the box wasn't.

@verizon.net

I just got Fios with a QIP7100 STB. I was using Comcast prior with an Explorer 3250. I have a Computer hooked up what an IR blaster to change the channel. With the comcast box when you change the channel it automatically comes on. With the Fios box it sits on the screen waiting for someone to hit "Menu". So when my 3 year old daughter turns the TV off the i end up recoding a message about the menu button. When i had comcast the box would automatically turn on ( quite ingenious!)

Is there any way i can get the 7100 to do that? or is there a way to force it always on??

Thanks in advance
