| Lost All of my recordings!!!
When my DVR freezes up (which happens about once a day!) I unplug the box for about 30 seconds, plug it in and I am back to where I started. Today when the box came back all of mt DVR settings, recordings were gone. Everything!! I hate this piece of s**T DVR.
I guess they are gone forever?? Any suggestions. tips?
I had such high hopes when I got fios last year but I can truly say that I was happier with DirecTV. 7 years w/them and no problems, ever, plus I had Tivo which was so much better than this P.O.S. box I have now that they are charging an arm and a leg for. |

| I know, I was trying to go with the program.
Unfortunately, at the present time I do not have several hundred dollars to put towards a new TiVo box. I am going to have to stick with "Mr. Freeze" which is the nickname for the box we have now. Believe me, when I have some discretionary income I will look into reigniting my love affair with TiVo
It just burns me up. there was so much on the DVR that I lost, it was at 95% full. I will particularly miss rewatching all of the Stanley Cup Final games, and lots of movies and shows that I was waiting to find time to watch. |

| reply to SkippyD Your STB should not be freezing up, you should call and have a replacement sent out.
As one who also had DirecTV, switched to cable then to FiOS i can tell you that you will never be satisfied with the current FiOS DVR options, not after having TiVo. I bought my TiVo HD a little over three months ago and am very happy with it, i have added a 1TB HDD and have space to record anything and everything i want. For bundled pricing, HD channels and PQ FiOS cant be beat, but their STB's can. For what your spending on the FiOS STB per year you could have a TiVo HD if you catch it on sale. Some reports have it as low as 149.99, i paid $199. for mine.
Good Luck |

| reply to SkippyD Wow I just read this post. I have a mr Freeze DVR as well. But have never lost my recordings. I am calling as soon as I get back from vacation because this is unacceptable. i should not have to unplug this thing so often. HD TIVO...I might have to think about doing that. Although I am paying only 7.00 for the HD DVR right now. Which is only 84 dollars a year. Add the TIVo and at 199 it will take over two years to recoop. HMMMM what to do what to do. |

| reply to darcilicious There are a lot of reasons not to get Tivo, not wanting to invest in the equipment, wanting to use equipment that's supported by Verizon & will be upgraded free of charge by Verizon, access to On Demand, 1394 digital captures of permitted content.
I can say that with my previous cable company never with 5 different Motorola model DVR boxes over 4 years did I have my pre-existing recordings completely disappear. There were lots of bugs that I always had to work around as I discovered them, similar with the 2 models used with FiOS, but I never had more than a single recording disappear on a power cycle (happened once when DVR was falsely reporting being 100% full).
Said cable company now offers DCX3432 models which have 320GB drives instead of the 160GB drives in the prior 2 models as well as both models FiOS uses. Not sure when a corresponding QIP model might be made for FiOS compatibility but it needs to happen soon. Not to mention the QIP6416 & QIP7216 are ugly (as were the DCT models before the DCH & now DCX came along). |

The point is, you have choices. Everyone has to figure out for themselves which is the best choice for them. The happiest FiOS customers by far seem to be the ones with TiVo -- that says something.
Personally, I'm going with the HD-PVR from Hauppauge. There's no dual-tuning, I'm still going to pay for a 6200 each month but what I get from it (1080i external recording, no DRM, unlimited disk, etc) is totally worth it to me.

There are also plenty of Vz customers who have never lost their recordings as well. |

The last item is not really a reason to stick with the FiOS DVR. The TivoHD already allows you to download recorded content to you computer over the network. It does this in the background, and does not interfere with recording or playback. You can record two different HD channels, while you watch a third previously recorded HD program, while you download a fourth HD program (in MPG format) to your computer with quality that is bit-for-bit identical to the original.
Captures with 1394 are a real kludge by comparison. They take full control of your DVR and require a computer in the TV room (as opposed to downloading recordings wirelessly). |

I agree with you about choices. I have a Happauge PVR-350 hanging around from way back. Putting it into an old box and playing with MythTV. Want to get a quick distro for it? Check out MythBuntu. »www.mythbuntu.org/
Live TV is almost there. I just have to figure out where I'm going to put it.
I know some people would say "I don't have the time for that. I just want the box to work." That's ok, too. We all have choices.
My preferences don't include an expensive annual subscription or equipment that is probably a data stream for Nielsen. And I can add drive space whenever I want. |

Check out MythBuntu. » www.mythbuntu.org/ Hmmmm... this is interesting: » www.mythtv.org/wiki/Hauppauge_HD-PVR My main problem with the Hauppauge HD PVR is the A/V sync issues. Many people, including myself, are limited to PCM (2.0) audio capture because Hauppauge's drivers still cannot reliably capture in-sync 5.1 audio with the latest drivers. Even PCM (2.0) recording from the optical input is not always reliable.
I have to record stereo analog output to ensure in-sync audio on the Hauppauge. That's fine for recording demo videos, but not something I would want for playback through my 5.1 system.
When you do get Hauppauge HD PVR, be sure to purchase from someone with a good return policy if you require in-sync DD5.1 playback. |

OP -- Please, please, please get a new one
Same thing with other issues. I was losing my wireless signal from my Actiontech, but it came back after I reset the router. After 2 days of that I called VZ and they sent a replacement overnight. No issues after that, obviously that first router was going bad.
Then I read a thread & someone said the same thing was happening to him......FOR 6 MONTHS!
Bottom line, do not just accept poor performance issues and think you should just 'put up with it' or that's just 'how it is'

I just my HD-PVR today and am using optical for audio (from the QIP6200), selected record audio in 5.1 format and haven't had any sync issues. Is it noticeable right off or does the lag get worse over time or ??
Now what I am having troubles with is getting the %*#(!! IR blaster working with the 6200 -- did you get that working and if so, how? |

Apparently, the IR receiver on the box is on the OPPOSITE side of the display from where it's LABELED. Way to go Vz / Motorola (I had another blaster working where the remote label is but it must have been "stronger" than the Hauppauge one ). I read about this being the case somewhere.
Right. Next up, SageTV |

| reply to SkippyD Yes I am using HDMI - and switching to Components is not going to happen. Huge difference in picture quality plus less cables running around..
So I called Tech support. He ran a bunch of test and finally asked me if my box has ever been re=programmed or replaced. (I have had neither done).
So he reprogrammed my box for me and so far it is working flawlessly. Has been for 4 days now. (my box freezed/crashed everyday)
He gave me instructions on how to reprogram my box my self in the future. He called it learning. LOL.
Using the remote:
Menu>Settings>System Information
Type these numbers
4883 clears Favorites
2601 Resets the box
He told me you have to clear the favorites in order for this to work. Channel favorites are the only thing that was erased. Schedule and recordings were all in tact.
Hope this helps everyone! GO HDMI! |
