'Cmon man, wake up... If you think that they haven't been keeping logs as 'insurance' then you either have no clue how this works or are delusional.

Why else buy The Pirate Bay? Global Gaming Factor was not buying TPB for their tracker collection.....Based on the currently available data, they bought it for 2 reasons:

1.) The website name. It's one of the top 100 most visited site on the internet. Great way to catch the noobs unawares.... Plus they've taken out the worlds largest public tracker that powers most of the other torrent sites out there

2.) The IP addresses & member logs of everyone that's visited in the last x. number of years & what torrents they downloaded...etc....etc. Get ready for more ISP infringement notices to come out closer to the end of the year after the data gathered from the Pirate Bay Server's has been mined and categorized.

Anyone can say that they don't keep records, but by their very nature websites log all kinds of data from many different sources that can be mined and used to identify you if enough time is spent at it....Plus how can anyone continue trust anything that comes out of the mouths of any member of TPB staff after they sold out?

They've proven the only ones they're loyal to are themselves...wherever that loyalty takes them apparently.

Hero's of the people my ass... They'll be replaced soon enough...

perhaps you might read this UID: the world is a lot larger and been around far longer than the US you know....

it seems the EU IP directives will come into play soon enough
and legal precidents such as this may be used far more widely across the whole EU in time....who knows, but the potential is there

IP Address Alone Insufficient To Identify Pirate, Court Rules
Written by enigmax on June 15, 2009

"...
Lawyers operating in tandem with companies like Logistep, such as ACS:Law in the UK, insist that since they have an IP address, this automatically means that the bill payer is the copyright infringer or at least liable for the infringement.

Italy, which has seen its fair share of misery inflicted by Logistep and its partners Peppermint Jam, now has reason to be optimistic that these cynical, profit-motivated operations can be dampened down.

Although anyone with a basic knowledge of the Internet could come to the same conclusion given 30 seconds in a quiet room, the Tribunale Ordinario di Roma has now ruled that an IP address alone does not identify an infringer. According to a Punto Informatico report, on this basis the court kicked out a complaint against an individual accused of copyright infringement.

The District Attorney and judge said that the mere ownership of a connection from where an infringement took place is not sufficient to establish the identity of an infringer or liability of a defendant, especially since other people could have committed the alleged infringement.
