The problem may be from an IE add-on that may not be completely compatible with IE8.

You can check the "load time" for each add-on here:

IE > Tools > Manage Add-ons > Toolbars and Extensions

In the "Load Time" column is there anything with a load time listed?

If so, what are the add-on(s) and what are the load times?
