You won't like my answer and I get crap every time I post this from people who swear they have a different experience, but ...

Compaq, IBM, Lenovo, Dell, home-built, updated BIOS, Win2K, XP, Linux, laptops, desktops - I've never been able to get any of them to work properly when resuming from standby. Sometimes, yes. All the time, with no unexplained glitches or weirdness? No.

The only exception in my experience is a Mac, but that doesn't help you.

My suggestion is to get the latest BIOS and driver for the NIC if you don't already have them and cross your fingers.
