2 edits | WOW are a Bunch of Morons Regarding LNP
WOW supposedly takes 5 days to enable number portability. Okay, no problem. Today was the day for for my Comcast installation and when the number was supposed to be switched.
But now, I just got a call from Comcast saying that WOW never responded to the request for the number port. So, they have to submit it again and I have to wait another 5 business days. The Comcast rep said it happens very often with WOW and all CC can do is resubmit.
I can't figure out of WOW is incompetent, don't give a crap or do it on purpose.
Great service by WOW . . . I'm so angry right now that all I can think is good riddance to bad rubbish by the end of next week.
Edit: Apparently 6 days is not enough for WOW (Comcast had pushed back my install date by an additional day because of porting problems) and seven is preferred. But, since the initial install got screwed by WOW, I now have to wait the additional days until the 9th of July. Clowns. |

I'd blame Comcast on this one. |

2 edits | I talked to both companies LNP departments. WOW themselves told me that they want 7 days but will do it in six for me. I talked to a supervisor at WOW's LNP department and she herself entered the port information while I was on the phone with her. She was the one that told me it would take until the 9th as the earliest date when things could be ported over. The 10th is when they are sending someone to collect their equipment. When I asked if it could be done sooner, she said no. She wasn't mean about it, but said it couldn't be done.
Comcast had in their notes that WOW hadn't acknowledged the transfer request and WOW told CC that 5 days was too fast. I called CC back after my talk with the WOW LNP people (WOW requested that I do that and have CC resubmit the request since my number was now set up as a "port out"). The CC person had me on hold and immediately contacted WOW to set up the port and get a confirmation number. She then told me that the WOW person told her that it takes that long because they have to close out their billing, etc.
Both sets of facts reconcile. WOW's just slow as molasses in Alaska in February for some reason. |

| I think of cable phone as being similar to VoIP. Two weeks is the norm for VoIP. There is some FCC things I think about 3 days, but good luck there.
The good old days VoIP LNP was a month if done fast. If they are their own CLEC, it would go fast.
VoIP to cell phone (Vonage to Sprint) was 7 days for me a couple years back.
If you want to know who owns your number, try »www.tnid.org
Also »www.telcodata.us/telcodata/telco is good to see what numbers are in a physical rate center. If your number is outside CC's rate center, LNP would be unlikely. --

Its easier to analyze if your rate center or the 1st 6 digits of your number were known> 555-555-xxxx
These are what list for MI - didn't think about searching that way. »www.telcodata.us/telcodata/compa···state=mi But you are in IL »www.telcodata.us/telcodata/compa···state=il |

My phone number is 630-355-xxxx, but it isn't listed in the telcodata.us site you listed directly above. It was in the links you put a few messages above. |

| So in theory any CLEC in the Napier Rate Center should be able to do LNP for your number. »www.telcodata.us/telcodata/ratec···state=IL
Many VoIP are with Level3 so that means LNP to VoIP should be possible too. The advantage of VoIP, is you don't need to physically live where your phone number is. If you moved to MI, you could keep your same number for example. E911 is a Nomadic E911. Likely WOW! and CC do not have Nomadic E911, so they depend more on physical location.
CAVEAT: Only speculating about CC and WOW! --

1 edit | I'm not a big fan of the standard VoIP services. I don't like the thought of having to deal with QoS issues and the like. WOW and CC phone are more along the likes of what I prefer, even though those are VoIP as well.
That being said, as my kids are getting older, I'm not as concerned about the E911 issues, so VoIP may be something I consider in the future. Definitely WOW and CC are not nomadic. |

| said by The Joker :WOW is cheaper then Comcrap ... Having tried both, I disagree.
There are interesting differences too. WOW! is mostly comparable when aiming at economy.
If price is not the issue, Comcast can deliver more. From what I've seen in posts lately, Comcast Business is yet another step up for internet. --

| reply to Goober I had the same issue. Was porting my number from WOW to Comcast. I had 2 earlier installs canceled due to number not getting ported in time. So for the third attempt I contacted WOW to help push along the port. Speaking with a chatty rep I found they are too swamped with number ports and it is taking 7-8 business days to complete.
Same story I would get when I had service issues, would take them a week to come out to troubleshoot/fix.
Soooo looking forward to moving on to bigger & better pastures. Sure, WOW was cheaper, but their service is completely behind all the competition. Things like smaller selection of HD channels, sporadic internet speeds, ON Demand offerings are pathetic, no NFL network games, no CSN, the guide channel design looks like computer designs from 10 yrs ago, and their DVR service lacks (can't record a shows unless it appears within the 1 week Guide listing.)
With Comcast recent promotions, WOW's edge on pricing is no longer. No reason left to stay. |
