| [XP] Bonded Router Wont Work With Second Router I just setup a bonded router (Linksys WRT54GS) with 2 dsl connections. Everything works great, but I don't want the router bonding the connections to do anything but bond the connections. I want my second router (Cisco RV082) to handle all of that stuff.
So i plugged in my bonded router into the first internet WAN (this router has a dual WAN) set my second router to obtain an ip automatically hoping it would see the bonded router as just an internet connection (such as a cable modem) but when i do this i lose access to the bonded router. I also get no internet.
Then I plugged the bonded router into one of the ports of the second router (either of the internet WANS) and boom both the internet works and i can now access the router that is doing the bonding.
I have the main router doing the bonding setup as 192.168.1.1 and the second router setup as 192.168.1.2. All my computers/servers are plugged into a switch with is linked with a crossover cable to the second router (linksys RV082).
So that being said...i want to get the router doing the bonding to work in one of the internet WANS on the second router so i can use it like an internet connection (if it was a cable modem), but i have no idea what to do to make this happen.
In about a month i want to bond 2 other dsl connections with a second WRT54GS router and plug it into the second internet WAN on the RV082...but there is no point unless i can get this first port working with the router doing the bonding.
Any idea's?
Thanks! | |

You have two DSL cables coming into the house that require two DSL modems OR do you have a single cable with two DSL WAN Ip addresses and a single modem.
Not sure what you mean by bonded router either??? -- Ain't nuthin but the blues! "Albert Collins". Leave your troubles at the door! "Pepe Peregil" De Sevilla. Just Don't Wifi without WPA, "Yul Brenner"

| I have a router bonding 2 dsl connections.
i want that router to plug into my second router (the RV082 dual wan router)
I plug the router with bonded dsl into the first internet wan port and it does not work.
I plug the router with bonded dsl into a normal port and it works.
I want the RV082 to handle all firewall/port forwarding/QOS stuff but i cant unless the router with the bonded dsl connections work in the internet port(s)
Sorry i assumed it would be confusing.

| Re: [XP] Bonded Router Wont Work With Second Router Firstly I doubt you're 'bonding' the two DSL connections. More like load balancing. Bonding requires support from the ISP and uses something like MLPPP or similar.
Secondly, if the RV082 is setup in the same subnet (192.168.1.x) as the WRT54GS, that's probably the cause of your problems. They have to be on two different subnets to work.

| The WRT54GS is doing the bonding via MLPPP. The second router is there so i can do all the things i need to do like QOS and port forwarding and hopefully soon load balancing of both my WRT54GS routers (which will be bonded using MLPPP).
Thanks for the heads up about the subnet stuff. I am going to change that right now.
