Mountaineer1 posted : OK,you can access the modem at »192.168.1.1 .

The Netopia Cayman modems DHCP server will need to be set to an IP range, where it allow Static IP address to be use. The default range of the DHCP server,in your modem is 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254 . This setting doesn't allow Static IP addresses to be used, and causes IP address conflicts. Set the DHCP server,in the modem,to a smaller range. Like 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.150. Save settings

Now,what you need to do is setup the Buffalo router,as I discribed earlier in this thread,as an Access Point. Change the Buffalo's LAN IP address to 192.168.1.2,Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 ,and the Gateway IP to 192.168.1.1 . Save settings

Also, remember to change the DHCP type to DHCP Forwarder and set the DHCP Server's IP address to 192.168.1.1. I want to replace the Belkin so i can share my DSL with my son acroos the street but he is 200 ft away and I was told the Buffalo unit with a 23Db Dipole would get me a Great connection with the 500 mwatt G-Sky adapter card that is in his computer. I just can't get the Buffalo set up correctly. they won't let me post a phone number to make it easier to communicate with somebody like you and probably have it up and running in minutes if could talk to some one instead of Posting's. i am new to all of thsi posting stuff.
thanks SmokChsr for comming back to me, I need a lot of HELP right now.
dave

SmokChsr posted : Are you removing the Belkin router to install the Buffalo? What it sounds like is that your Belkin is still in control of the network.

Configuring more than one router on a network can be done, but it's not something that I've had to do and is a bit more involved.

I guess now the real question is what are you trying to accomplish? If I'm understanding correctly you have the Belkin for internet access and now you are adding the buffalo (unknown for what purpose). For home networking you don't need (and probably shouldn't use) more than one router.

If you are using the Buffalo to add wireless capability, then it might be best to simply replace the Belkin with it. If you don't want to do a replacement then you would most likely want to disable all router functions on the Buffalo and allow the belkin to handle all routing.

I'm still troubled by the phrase "I can't get it to let me connect to the internet via my main computer" are you trying to run it through from the Belkin to Main Computer and then Buffalo?

For a typical setup both the main computer and the buffalo would be connected directly to the Belkin.

If you could clarify a bit on what the desired result is we might be able to help better.

SmokChsr posted : I think I'd like to start back at the basics. How are you getting internet service and how is it connected to the Router?
Something you said gave me the idea you might be going to your main computer first and then to the router, which most likely won't work.
If the Router is at 192.168.1.1 and your computer is set to use DHCP, then you are heading in the right direction. On the computer in question it would be a good idea to look at your network settings and see what they are. One quick way to do that would be to open a command window and run an IPCONFIG command. You should see something like 192.168.1.X (X being a number that is NOT 1). Your gateway should be 192.168.1.1. If those settings are correct then it would appear that your computer is seeing the router correctly. This would tend to indicate that the router is having some sort of trouble seeing the internet. Once we know more along these lines hopefully we'll know better what direction to steer you in.
