Sure, he is unfaithful. If I was his father-in-law, I would kick his ass. But he lied in an attempt to save his marriage; it is the first response most men would have when faced with getting busted cheating.

As far as lying to his wife inferring that he lying about more, your logic is faulted. Statement A being a lie does not automatically make statement B a lie. Have you ever told a lie? If the answer is no, then you are better than everyone else in this world. If you ever did tell a lie, does that make everything else that you have ever told anyone a lie? If you lied once, should I automatically assume that every thing else you ever said is a lie?

As far as paying off as opposed to dragging it out, people and corporations do it all the time. It does not imply guilt. It implies good business sense. It is a business decision, as the cost of fighting it are not worth the cost of settling. If she demands $1M, and will settle for $200K, while the cost of fighting the $1M lawsuit has a 50% chance of exceeding $400K in legal fees and time lost, then paying the $200K makes business sense.

Everyone fibs you missed the over all point.

He had already lied on the subject at hand. In the beginng he denied having sex with her at all, and im sure ommited telling his wife about it at all. So he then tells the "truth" that he had sex with this chick. Meanwhile he COULD still be lying and really COULD HAVE raped her. YOU have no idea.

Sorry but one thing I would deffend to the end, is my reputation, with his kind of money, I would have took her ass to court 100 times if needed if I really didn't do it. So IMO its LIKELY he may have raped her or at least done something questionable. IF I really did do something "wrong" I would have paid her to keep it quiet. Which is also what MANY businesses/people do that have money and want to keep the truth out of court. You understand what your saying goes both ways.

Which do you think is more common?

1. Person/Business is really innocent and just doesn't want to goto court to "save" money.

2. Baseball players also saw fit to unionize themselves and act together to collectively negotiate things like guaranteed contracts and being paid when hurt. Years ago team owners were screwing ballplayers over. Comiskey was the primary reason the White Sox attempted to throw the World Series because of actions like sitting Eddie Cicotte to avoid paying him a performance bonus. Mickey Mantle hit for the Triple Crown and was still required to either take a pay cut next season or hit the bricks, without the option to play for another team. The Curt Floods and Marvin Millers of the world worked for unionization. I'm actually an anti-union guy, but if you can get it done, more power to ya. No one is stopping golfers from doing the same thing. Most pro golfers actually struggle tremendously, because they have to foot their own expenses. Only the elite make any real serious cash out of the deal.
--
You're so vain... I bet you think this post is about you.

Certain athletes seem to be sheltered from the tide, i.e. Tiger, but many an athlete has seem much less cash than they would have 2 years before. Three of the most obvious in baseball are Manny Ramirez, Bobby Abreu, and Orlando Hudson. NBA revenues have gone down, which means the salary cap goes with it. Same thing for the NHL, where teams are trying to shed themselves of albatross contracts right and left, and are being much more frugal in how they sign stars. Even Tiger isn't completely sheltered from the storm--Buick dropped him as a marquee endorser. The lower level professional leagues are taking huge hits; the Arena Football League has completely disintegrated. That was a league with two major TV contracts.
--
You're so vain...
The Dv8or : Athletes are paid enormous bucks because of their ability to generate enormous bucks. Every time I hear the tired argument of why our grammar school teachers are paid so little and athletes paid so much, I roll my eyes to the economic ignorance. Teachers don't generate a ton of revenue in a direct fashion like athletes do. They are basically a cost center, an expense to perform a service. Yes, their service might indirectly generate revenue in the long run, but there's no direct tie.

Tiger Woods is a home run for Nike, enabling them to basically have a golf department and sell all kinds of golf accessories.

One may say that they don't buy products or services based on commercials and endorsers, but there's a very advanced psychology in advertising, and the subliminal messages being passed have a lot larger effect than a person realizes. Name recognition is major, and with an aggressive ad campaign, the company is basically building a visual and mental relationship with you.

What's also interesting is that athletes aren't even close to the highest earners in America. There's plenty of Wall Street phenoms pulling down 9 figure paychecks that no one talks about, not to mention the CEOs who get shitloads of stock options. There's also little mention of the salaries of media entertainers outside of when they sign new contracts, like Leno who made about 25 mil a year, and Letterman who pulls in over 30 mil a year in salary alone.
--
You're so vain...
