Re: Google Voicemail - Straight to Voicemail

Not sure if this fits in with your setup but youmail.com provides transcriptions services. When the transcription service was in beta it was excellent but when it was over the free service was horrible.

From the website
»https://store.youmail.com/store/home.do

Check out our highly accurate transcription services - they're like having a secretary type your voicemail.

Read-It Saver, our low cost starter plan is only $3.99 a month with the first part of the message sent to you as an email or text message.

Read-It 50, our most popular plan is only $6.99 a month and transcribes about a minute per message, up to 50 messages a month.

Read-It 150, our power user plan is only $17.99 a month for up to 150 messages a month.

Tried it w/ a number added checked and unchecked as well as w/ dnd enable & disable. Unfortunately it still rings three times before it is sent to voicemail.
Just the caller hears the extra rings, correct? You are not saying that the called phone rings, are you?

My cell phone, and I suspect many others, forwards a call after a set period of time -- around 30 seconds, rather than after a certain number of rings. You might test this by forwarding to a number that will ring and measuring the amount of time before you hear the ring, compared to the amount of time before GV voicemail picks up.

I have noticed that GV will pick up if you press "*" while the phone is still ringing (i.e., before you hear your outgoing message). This is because GV actually takes the call even before the caller knows that it has been answered. I did not realize, however, that this occurs even when GV is configured to send calls directly to voicemail.

Unfortunately k7 rings at least twice before the call is answered and the message starts. It would work if it only rang once, but at two or more rings plus the four rings before the call is transferred most people would hang up assuming that they couldn't leave a message.

I'm trying that now. Currently I have no number setup.

Edit:

Tried it w/ a number added checked and unchecked as well as w/ dnd enable & disable. Unfortunately it still rings three times before it is sent to voicemail.

I'm gonna try out K7 to see how it works.

How about setting up free gizmoproject account and forward call to that number?

Yep. Just unchecking all the forwarding numbers (or not having any) will send the calls straight to voicemail. That's the way I have mine set up until I decide to really use the service, which may come after I'm able to port a number to them.

The problem is that google voice rings for two or three more times even though there aren't any phone numbers listed for google to call.
Do you have phone numbers set up, but just not checked as forwarding numbers, or do you have no numbers set up at all? I might work if you have numbers set up, but then enable "do not disturb," or perhaps just uncheck the numbers.

That's probably what I'll do since we have free long distance w/ AT&T. I just liked that google will transcribe the messages. (although that's not a deal breaker, just a plus)

k7.net, run by the IPKall folks, lets you use their "unified messaging" for free--you can set it to voicemail/faxmail or fax, with a personal greeting, default message, or fax tone.

Is there a way to set google voice to go straight to voicemail?

The reason I ask is that I would like to set my business lines to get forwarded to my google voice # after 4 rings & on busy which isn't a problem. The problem is that google voice rings for two or three more times even though there aren't any phone numbers listed for google to call.

I've tried different setting, but hopefully I'm missing something because otherwise I'll have to sign up for a regular voicemail service. If there isn't a way, is there a voicemail service that inexpensive, sends audio messages to email, & maybe transcribes the the voicemail as well. (would ipkall work w/ an incorrect sip uri or will it still ring a couple times before it realizes the uri isn't responding)

(AT&T swears they don't have a way to check messages other than by phone, but what's this link for? »vm.att.com )

Thanks in advance.
