You are not saying that the called phone rings, are you?

My cell phone, and I suspect many others, forwards a call after a set period of time -- around 30 seconds, rather than after a certain number of rings. You might test this by forwarding to a number that will ring and measuring the amount of time before you hear the ring, compared to the amount of time before GV voicemail picks up.

I have noticed that GV will pick up if you press "*" while the phone is still ringing (i.e., before you hear your outgoing message). This is because GV actually takes the call even before the caller knows that it has been answered. I did not realize, however, that this occurs even when GV is configured to send calls directly to voicemail.

PhilAIV posted : Unfortunately k7 rings at least twice before the call is answered and the message starts. It would work if it only rang once, but at two or more rings plus the four rings before the call is transferred most people would hang up assuming that they couldn't leave a message.

burgerwars posted : Yep. Just unchecking all the forwarding numbers (or not having any) will send the calls straight to voicemail.

PhilAIV posted : Is there a way to set google voice to go straight to voicemail?

The reason I ask is that I would like to set my business lines to get forwarded to my google voice # after 4 rings & on busy which isn't a problem. The problem is that google voice rings for two or three more times even though there aren't any phone numbers listed for google to call.

I've tried different setting, but hopefully I'm missing something because otherwise I'll have to sign up for a regular voicemail service. If there isn't a way, is there a voicemail service that inexpensive, sends audio messages to email, & maybe transcribes the the voicemail as well. (would ipkall work w/ an incorrect sip uri or will it still ring a couple times before it realizes the uri isn't responding)

(AT&T swears they don't have a way to check messages other than by phone, but what's this link for? »vm.att.com )

Thanks in advance.
